*****UC Berkeley 2021 Waitlist Thread*****

So how do we apply for housing?

@SMLR18 highkey want to know that too lol

@JNYZ88 Thank you SO much! This was very helpful in clearing a lot of things about FPF. My son got in today and we’ve been so confused.

So no intended L&S Computer Science majors heard back… That’s a little heartbreaking. I just wanted to say congratulations to everyone that got in; you’ll all do amazing things at Berkeley. I’m trying my best to have some hope. Good luck to all of the other CS majors!! :frowning:

I thought Berkeley is a very popular social science university? Maybe Berkeley accepted a bunch of social science majors and do not have any room for waitlisted social science majors? I know Berkeley says that they do not consider major for Letters and Science, but I feel like they are lying about that lol.

@JNYZ88 thank you for that information. I was wondering if you could answer another question regarding it. I SIR’d as soon as I got the offer and clicked straightaway first year pathway FPF Berkeley and it said I was registered for it. Is that as simple as it is or do you think there’s the possibility that they might later tell me that there are no spots left?

ACCEPTED for January 2018! Instate and applied as intending a major in social science.

Hey so does the conditional offer for scholarships that Berkeley offers you mean that you will most likely get them?

Anyone got off the waitlist who’s not going?

So, the ppl who are intending a major in social sciences and are still waiting should lose hope or not?

Is housing guaranteed for students who got off the waitlist and want to do FPF?

Hey everyone, I am a transfer waitlisted student. Can any of you who got off waitlist share some ideas about optional essay(if you have one). Thank you very much!

So are you given option for FPF only after you SIR or do you have to be given that option to even apply?

Accepted for EECS. Thank you all for your help and support!

@Newtothis77 You’re welcome and congratulations! My son (and I) were pretty confused last year around this time too. We relied on the waitlist forum from 2015 to help us navigate through some of the questions. Any hesitations my son had regarding FPF turned out to be non-issues. Like I mentioned, the smaller classes and easy access to counselors turned out to be extremely helpful in easing him into a large public university. Typical freshmen lectures are 300-800 students, yet his math and English courses were more like 35 kids! His roommates were actually envious of his smaller classes  I wish your son all the best. Go Bears!

@AlbionH Congrats! Did you get a confirmation? You can always contact the FPF office to check. The link is here: https://fpf.berkeley.edu/contact-us. When my son SIR’d (also right away :-), he was given the choices FPF Berkeley, FPF SF, Global Edge, and January Start. He clicked on FPF Berkeley and gained access to the accepted students’ portal. From there, he received instructions on how to set up a school email and register for housing. If you want to live on campus I would do that right away. The chances are good for first year students, but not guaranteed if you apply by the deadline (they always advise you to mark as one of your choices, “any dorm”). If you apply before the housing deadline, you will have equal chance of getting something as the students admitted back in March. (As I recall, the last day to apply for freshmen (FPF or not) for campus housing is a few weeks after the SIR deadline for regular admits. Good luck!

@JNYZ88 hi thank you for the response! I got confirmation on my application portal saying “Welcome to FPF Berkeley! We are excited to have you in our program for the Fall 2017 semester.” But haven’t received an email yet to confirm it. I’ve already been able to set up my Berkeley email as well as began applying for housing since I have a few friends who are also joining Berkeley this year. My main fear is that if I complete housing and then on Monday or Tuesday get an email saying that spaces are filled than I’ll be in a point of an annoying situation…

@AlbionH

Are your deadlines on calcentral reflective of a January admitted student? Also, where on your application portal does it say “Welcome to FPF Berkeley!..” I’ve selected FPF Berkeley but I have no idea whether or not I got in since my deadlines are still for January admits.

@Cheeseisbae yes my deadlines are still for January but on my application portal after I selected my “first year pathway” it gave me a page with the message I typed earlier

Do I have to pay SIR before being able to sign up for FPF? I signed my SIR and hour ago, but it won’t let me sign up for it. Could it be that all spots are taken? Thanks!
