*****UC Berkeley 2021 Waitlist Thread*****

Guys, should I submit grades if I got 4 B’s and 3 A’s last semester? I have 6 AP classes ( A was in the regular class). I’m wondering if not submitting grades will look bad and lower my chances.

Thanks.

@iggytrinh I’d submit it anyway because I think it’s better to let them know how you did. I don’t think it’ll hurt your chances if you don’t submit it since they claim to mainly focus on your original application, but it might look odd if everyone else submits grades and you don’t( I believe most people are submitting grades). Even then, 4 B’s in 6 AP classes isn’t as bad as you think… just submit it and hope for the best come May.

@iggytrinh man that’s hella good! Plus, 5 are AP classessss! You got above 4. I’m surely so you good! And, In my opinion, it will look bad if you don’t submit anything, but I AM NOT SURE! Just due to common sense.

Yeah you right, @astroLyf it is enough, it’s better not to compare with other people’s essays. And, yeah there are people who are just clicking the opt in button and sending a black form! I do not know how can they do when they got another oppurnity. However, I do not blame them though because It’s hard to gain more ideas when we wrote 4 essays already! I actually did the additional comment too! I posted my awards and E.Cs. Basically 6 in totallll! LMAO.
I’ve finish my draft, but I knowww it could be betterr! My ouutline is sorta like yours, but I didn’t give them any brief explanation of the courses since there’s nothing to talk about.
This is my outline, it’s similar to yours though.

  • characteristics, personalities, traits do you bring to the campus. student body and/or the campus community.
  • an example of one of my characteristics, personalities, basically anything what I have been doing within my school (but i only gave them one example, should I state more?) -Family conflict at the end of 1st semester -how I overcome the challenge and also motivated me more to major in public health.
  • Why is UCB right for you. For example, what unique opportunities will the campus offer you that you cannot get anywhere else and how do you intend to take advantage of those opportunities. (I talked about my major public health and how I want to travel to help families that are in needs such as disadvantage people across the globe.
  • how much I admire the professors in the public health department (LOLLL, is this a good idea??) (They going to be like but she never met the proffesors,,, I only gave two examples.) -assurance your acceptance to their offer should admitted.

MANNNN, I don’t know. I think our outline of the essay is pretty decent. Should I write a brief explanation of the courses of last semester? There’s nothing to talk about since I got straight A’s. However, I had 5 classes but I took one class in a college campus. Hopefully they don’t think I was lazy to take 6 classes in my school. However, the course I took in my local college, was around the time of 6 period starts.

Guys, I found this on UCLA thread 2020 though, I know pretty long ago:

(I e-mailed my counselor (used to read essays for UC Berkeley applicants) and he responded with this: "if you can provide information to UCLA (when you opt in for the waiting list) about how you did last semester in a really rigorous schedule of classes and any other activities or roles you have taken on this year, that would hopefully show the admissions office that you continue to work hard and push yourself. Also, if you have visited the campus, had any contact with admissions officers, or attended any events or took any steps to further your knowledge about UCLA, you should mention that as well. The more that you show the school that you truly know this is the campus for you, the better.)

basically mention grades, any other leadership positions, and talk about interest in UCB

I think it’s important to post a lot of activies and roles we have taken on this year to show that we didn’t just get good grades on our classes but we also did some clubs and e.c.

this website shows that UCB accepted 1340/2445 (55%)

@Lifeissohard Yeah I found out I kind of talked insufficiently about why UCB is the school for me in my essay… I will change that later. Living in China means no chance of campus visit, no change of interaction with admission officers, no change of attending events lol. I got to learn about UCB all from YouTube… And yeah, I think you can cut out the explanation of courses part. I include that part because I want to use it as an intro of my language challenge, and further leading into one of the activities I’ve been doing since the application season. But now I don’t know how to talk specifically about why UCB, you know, down to details.

Ahh, I do not know. You can say prestigious academic level, and you can the city is nice. You know comparing to UCD, it is a farm school LOL. It is hard to talk about why UCB! I went on youtube, and why people chose UCB, one said the people good vibes, atmosphere, the environment, and this one dude said the history? I’m in your shoes rn I do not know what to say why UCB, like in ddeeeetaillllsss! THISS ESSAY IS KILLING ME. LOL.

I said the professors are great and how much I admire them but i am thinking about deleting that cause i never met them and the person who will read this will be like she’s bullshitting it.

(It’s true though, they make their own novels and textbooks comparing to other colleges.)

Anyone know the deadline to submit the optional essay ?

Can I submit any other material besides the grades and optional essay?

@Lifeissohard I thought for public health, you have to apply once you get into the school? Did you apply directly? I applied as undeclared in natural resources, but I am hoping to go into public health.

Any body in engineering waitlisted… any knowledge if engineering ppl get off the waitlist at all…

@USUG21 EECS waiitlisted.

EECS waitlist as well

@huerbao Man, its the same deadline you have to opt in, April 18 11:59pm. it’s either you opt in with the essay and the grades filll in or no essay since its optional with grades or without.

@ncc1738 I just applied directly it was in the majors selection in the application. It was under Letter and Sciences. Pretty sure you can change it to Public Health.

Does it look like your admitted friends from your high school are interested in enrolling

@ncc1738 Oh and the funny thing is at first I didn’t know what the heck is Public Health but I researched it and I fall in love with the major without even experiencing it first. For UCD, UCSC, UCSB ( I got into all) I applied to neurology/neuroscience. I mentioned in my additional comment that I want to specialize in neurology when I grow up and my academy in school made me passionate about it (psychology, anatomy, physiology, medical chemistry, EMT.). Public Health has nothing to do with neurology. So I wish I never mention that in the additional comment so embarrassing lol. UC Berkeley has no neuroscience major only for graduates, I think.

I was wondering if UC Berkeley waitlisted me because of that; they might think this girl don’t know what she want to be when she grows up how the hell public health and neurology related LOL. But it doesn’t matter until you go to medical school though. I don’t know man.

@morelifeee No you can’t submit no LR or any additional documents, unfortunately.

@Lifeissohard I have the similar problem you got. What I really want to study is astronomy but I applied for the Physics major. I did so because I heard in Chinese resources that Berkeley tends to reserve their spots in Astronomy major for native American, so my chance would be incredibly small if I applied directly for astronomy major. However, most of the ECs I did in high school were about astronomy. Although the ECs look really nice and passionate, and indeed they are, but they have little to do with the major, physics, I applied to.
