*****UC Berkeley 2021 Waitlist Thread*****

when would you find out about getting off the waitlist?

Last yr ppl got news around 23 or 24th of april

^^ that was the earliest but it was only for civil engineering i think? L&S started coming out May 2nd

@Lifeissohard Public health goes with everything!!! Neurology DEFINITELY connects… for example…Alzheimer’s disease (one of the most researched out of mental health illnesses)! Public health has a 50% acceptance rate for those who apply once they get to Berkeley. I heard you couldn’t apply as a freshman applicant, so I was confused. Maybe they would have you do a bunch of prereqs and then ask you to apply again? IDK but Berkeley started a new summer public health minor which is outstanding, too!

@thenewstyped yes engineering came out at that time.

Hey guys, do muslim ban protests, Black Live matters protest, and No wall strike are E.C??? I am so stressing out because my college adviser said I need to show more and not just tell lmaooO! The only clubs I join right now is environment club and debate club; I already mention that on my application. Please guys, let me know if protests and strikes are E.C. It is civic engagement thoughhh!

What you guys think??

I maintained a 4.0 unweighted throughout my entire high school career (including my senior year). That’s gotta help right?

Idk if its an extracurric but for sure mention it somewhere about how u got super involved with activism @Lifeissohard

@johnlimster of course.

@thenewstyped do you think it’s enough to talk about besides e.c. or should I mention 2 other clubs?
and thanks berkeley love activists i think aha

@ncc1738 Ahhh, for real?? Where do you see that a senior high schooler couldn’t apply as a freshman applicant? I actually chose Public Health in my application and I do not recall saying it for graduate. Are you saying public health is a graduate department? So there is no such thing a Public Health for freshmen lolll… I am so confuse…

@Hardzworker will some one be off waitlist if the admitted students from the same school donot enroll ??? Is getting off the waitlist depends upon school .

@ncc1738 LOOOL YOU ARE RIGHT. In this website http://sph.berkeley.edu/undergraduate-major/preparing-apply :it says "you may apply to declare a major in Public Health after you complete the lower division prerequisite requirements. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. Wait, so I made an error in my application by choosing the wrong major? If I did, they would’ve declined me instead of waitlisted me. What do you think?

@ncc1738 I found this “if you are a current undergraduate student at UC Berkeley who is interested in majoring in public health? Then you’ve come to the right place! Although the major is still capped, we encourage all qualified students to apply. Undergraduate students in the College of Letters & Science at UC Berkeley can apply to major in public health after completing the lower-division prerequisites, generally at the end of the sophomore year.”

Wait, so I think I am doing prerequisites like what you said, and apply again? I do not know, hopefully there’s no error because I will freak out. I saw Public Health under pre-med so I just checked that box LMAO. It would’ve been an error I think if it’s a graduate major.

@astroLyf Man, isn’t astronomy has to do with physics though? I know it’s not entirely but I recall astronomy has to do with physics. I am not sure, though.

Ohhhh, look http://college.usatoday.com/2016/03/25/best-colleges-for-a-major-in-public-health/ basically it get you ready by taking prerrecs. @ncc1738

@Lifeissohard Oh yes of course, they are related subjects. But my adviser and my parents all think this might cause some problems because after all they are still two distinct majors. My adviser also says the same thing lol that “I should show more not tell”, to be honest, I don’t quite get it every time. I think those protest activities will count? If I had done those I would have written them to, you know, show how you are passionate in these human rights protection. After all, I don’t quite believe that everyone will have some remarkable updates after application. I talked to my adviser this afternoon (it’s like 4 hours ago), he advised me to write more about my perseverance on the major I chose (the new things I have done after application)(I write about my continuance on my third participation in the national astronomical olympiad, and the translation job I am doing for the largest astronomical forum in China(not quite exciting, sadly…)), and why I STILL have UCB as my top choice after all these. Of course this one is nothing too different from why UCB, I want to include one of the activities held by UCB that I enrolled recently. It’s called Eclipse Megamovie Project. But I don’t know how incorporate it yet. Phew it’s killing me!

Hav u all seen any media news regarding the admission statistics this year so far. Pl share.

@USUG21 last year they released them May 1st… so it could be the same for this year

@astroLyf Yeah I know what you mean. That’s how I feel about Public Health. Neurology and Public Health are related subject but they are different majors. Me too! However, I think our advisers want us to show more examples, like how are you passion with your chosen major? Why Berkeley, do not give at list of examples. like how I did lol. I gave like list of examples why I love Berkeley such as the rigorous coursework, amazing professors, placid environment, the good vibes within the students, the internship opportunities… I KNOW A LIST LOL; and I mentioned a professor name and how much how much I admire him as a novelist and professor. But still, my adviser says “Show, don’t tell” I am stressed out, I did gave out two or three examples in the list, but I guess I have to explain the whole thing? LOL that’s too muchhh. He said do more research on Berkeley. I am doing so much research, like what @astroLyf said I am not getting it every time. Maybe how our e.c or any activities show how much you love Berkeley.

Hopefully the protests I have been doing will impress Berkeley. I did a lot of protesting the past few months and still do. I actually did a Disease Research Project and presented it in front of 80+ people; I mentioned it on my waitlist essay but my adviser said delete it because a group work project “ain’t going to impress UC Berkeley.” :frowning:

I mean Public Health connects with researching diseases, so how am I going to show I am interested in the major!!! What you think?? I wasn’t involved in any clubs beside the environment club and debate club so like if I talk bout it again (I only mentioned it on the activities list not my original essays), it’ll be lame. Though, we did make a change in our school by giving out more recycle, compost, and waste bins in our school because before they weren’t any.

Especially in my school they all serious about clubs I have to be there and not like slack off. It’s twice a week for the environment club and for the debate every Tuesday and like that’s already 3 day of my week with endless homework, essays, and projects. Plus, I already mentioned a whole lot in the application so yeah. I mean I did volunteering but I feel like if I list them randomly like it doesn’t connect with my major but it does connect with helping people? However, clubs I only did two. I do not want to lie like a majority of people be doing, because my college adviser said the admission offices actually called two of his friends to give out proof. LOLLLL. I don’t want to risk it.

I feel like being an activist shows a whole lot. What do you think? Should I talk to them about the Disease Research Project even though, my adviser thinks it isn’t a big deal. I feel like all the work I have done really made a difference among my classmates.

By the way, that sounds like a really interesting project!!!
