UC Berkeley 2023 Applicants Thread

Just checked, Daughter got accepted. Weighted UC GPA (10th + 11th)= 3.38, 1530 SAT, EC activities nothing spectacular - just typical. Desired major was neuroscience and she was lucky enough to get accepted at UCLA, UCSD and UCB, her top 3 choices. Now comes the really tough part, deciding which of these is the best fit given she wants to eventually do an MD-PhD.

@GrumpyOldEngr the world is now right again! A big Bear is better than a little bear lol…
Acceptance packages come about a week or two later, IIRC.

Hi Bears … is anyone’s financial aid up?

@IITBorNot2B
Hi, my daughter is in the same position as well. Would love to know which way she decides. Mine is not certain about anything post undergrad but would like to keep her options open…

@collegebound2023 UCSC is a great school. I have been there. Personally, it’s one of the best campuses, and Santa Cruz is one of the most beautiful towns. I don’t know what your intended major is, but if it’s CS, a lot of opportunities there…

@ProfessorPlum168 I just got into Berkeley! It’s my number 1 school and am 100% going to attend. However, I have been struggling in one of my AP science class. I received a C last semester.
And I am pretty sure I will get a C again this semester. I tried hard and studied but the results just don’t seem to match with my work.
Don’t worry! I am NOT going into the STEM field at Cal haha.

Last semester my grades were ā€œa, a, b, b, c, a, aā€ and I am afraid it will be my grades for this semester as well. I have been working hard but these teachers and classes just have not been smooth for me.

Although I was cheering and crying earlier, I am scared I will get rescinded…? What are my chances of getting rescinded?

@musiciangoaler you should be fine. I think you need 2 Cs in any one semester before the university bats an eye. You need a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA in both semesters in 12th grade.

I got accepted to UC Berkeley and UC Merced, got waitlisted by UCSC and UCI, and I got rejected by UCLA and UCSD. My stats are not the best, but my essays were extremely amazing!! I got admitted to UC Berkeley’s college of Letters and Science as a Biology (Public health) major. If any future applicants get a request for letters of recommendation, please ask 2 people you are super close with to write them for you because I feel that the letters, along with my essays, were what got me admitted. This year I am taking only AP courses. I also do not have any amazing extracurricular activities like other applicants did. I am just an average student. Let this show future applicants that you still have a chance, if you explain your passion for something!
GPA:3.9
ACT:22

I think they only rescind accepted students that receive an F or D-, basically anything lower than a C-. Don’t stress out!! You should be celebrating! You have accomplished something amazing!!!
