after long stress. the wait is over. Son did not get into UCB/UCLA CS program. SAT 1540, SAT Math 800, Physics 760, Japanese 720. GPA 3.92 (uw), 4.25 w. I thought he should be an ideal candidate. He know a lot CS stuff. Maybe his essay is so so…
S is denied by UCB CS, WL by UCLA and Cornell, very disappointed. We are OOS. His stats: SAT 1600, SAT subject Math II 800, Physics 800, 8 APs (one 4, the rest are 5), one A- in a top 10 public HS. He will attend a decent public school, the positive part is that he saves us $$$.
Hi I am an international OOS student, got rejected from Berkeley, Harvard, and Princeton also
SAT 1: 1480 (690 EBRW,790 math)
SAT 2: 800 in both Physics and Math L2
Gpa 4.0/4.0 and 4.92/5.00 unweighted
a few extracurriculars I have been doing for 4 years or more. Applied for mechanical engineering at Berkeley.
Feeling very sad, but still hoping to get into Stanford tomorrow!
Also, I am thinking of submitting an appeal form to Berkeley. I am putting my latest mid-year grades and other awards I have won, should I also include anything else?
Accepted, Mech E, 1550 SAT, 4.7 GPA, lots of leadership. A fun, but difficult decision making process ahead. Only waiting to hear from one more.
I have been accepted to Berkeley, SD, and SB. I am pretty much deciding between UCB and UCSD though. My plan was to attend admitted students day at SD even though I have toured before because I figured I would be able to find almost everything I wanted to know about Berkeley online. I will tour the campus later as well. Would you recommend I go to the berkeley or sd admit day?
For future applicants, waitlisted for cs by UCLA and admitted for eecs by cal. Don’t give up hope.
@Ranipetgirl Doesn’t say but I applies for Public Health/Biology
Congratulations once again @MLG2019
If you have never visited ucb I would definitely visit on cal day. Berkeley has a unique culture and environment, one that my daughter happens to love, but you should check it out for yourself. We traveled to cal day last year and found it informative and worth the trip.
Our daughter didn’t tour daughter didn’t take physics in high school and took physics 8 at cal and is just fine… don’t let the rumors ruin your dreams from any school
@ProfessorPlum168 Hi! my daughter is admitted to ucb and she is so happy to go there. Her COA shows around $31.9k for off campus housing. Can u pls tell me if this amount would increase if she chooses for on campus housing? Also, another question, she is NMF, would Berkeley give any kind of merit aid money? Thanks for your time!
No merit money for national merit finalists at UCs
@suave123 It would cost about $36,522 for on campus housing.
On campus will be more expensive. For dorms it all depends on the dorm and the number of people in the dorm (double or triple or quad). For a 10-month dorm, it usually comes out to roughly $1500-1800 a month, for 10 months. Includes a meal plan. Might be a bit cheaper with triples and quads.
I’m not sure about the off-campus housing calculations, but a decent 1 bedroom is roughly $2000-2500 a month, so if 2 people shared that’s roughly $1000-1250 a month before utilities for the whole year.
My acceptance letter only says “You have been admitted to the College of Letters and Science” and does not mention what major I was accepted to. I applied for an interdisciplinary major (Legal Studies) so could that be why?
@peach23 all L&S applicants go in as undeclared even though you specified a major.
To add to @ProfessorPlum168 remarks, there is dorm called Bowles Hall that costs $2035 per month. Its a bit more but includes all your food, albeit only in its own dining hall. Bowles is a 4 year residence hall, so once you are admitted you can stay for all 4 of your undergrad years. Admission is competitive, based on several essays but once you are in, you stay in. This will obviate the need to find housing after your freshman year, which in Berkeley can be drain bamage…
@autumnspast Do you know what are the essay prompts? Sounds like an environment my kiddo would thrive in, but to be honest she is a little burned out with writing so many essays even after all the applications were submitted (Alumni, Honors, scholarship applications, etc.)
My D got admitted to Letters and Science and she is in pre med path . She is debating between UCB and UC davis . Heard lot of horror stories about grades . Will it be easier for her to get in to Med school from UC Davis compared to UCB? Any pointers?
@autumspast isn’t Bowles only available for Regents or Chancellors folks? I’m not sure. I don’t recall it being an option available for my kid. My next door neighbor’s kid got into Bowles and he was Regents, but he left after a year.
