What are the odds for a triple at Blackwell? @ProfessorPlum168

@coolweather ??? I already followed those instructions

@WilliamCollege there are no triples at Blackwell. Only a few singles and the rest doubles.

urgent: if I submit my SIR, can I change my mind before May 1? (I’m not required to submit a deposit, so I don’t care about a refund or whatever)

The competitions not over still

In principle you cannot change your mind after submitting SIR unless you get off a waitlist.
You may lose admission to other schools.

@taloolab once you SIR, you’re supposed to put down your $300 deposit or whatever the amount is, at that time.

You can always back out of a SIR for whatever reason, you most likely would simply lose your deposit.

If you’re not sure for whatever reason and don’t want to lose your deposit, I would just wait until April 30 before doing the SIR. But make sure you SIR somewhere before May 1, otherwise you will lose your spot.

@ProfessorPlum168 thank you so much

The competitions not over still… though its a minor one… it can play a big role…

My son accept SIR + paid deposit at UCLA (where he was accepted) and was wait-listed at UCB? My son applied to Global Business Management at UCB–is there a chance he may get in from their waitlist? He doesn’t want to jeopardize his acceptance into UCLA. Please clarify. Thank you.

@momsparks U can definitely be on the UCB waitlist, and enroll in UCLA (which is just paying a deposit, of idk how much (<$1000 defo)).

If (latest by 6/1) U hear back from UCB positively, u can forgo the enrolled amt for UCLA, tell them of a change in plans by calls/emails, and then before/after that pay UCB their enrollment deposit, and commit.

It roughly is like this from past anecdotes specific to UC’s and from hearings too.

@momsparks I can’t speak to how likely your S will be pulled from the GMP waitlist but being on it will not impact his place at UCLA if you have SIR’d and paid the deposit.

@autumnspast I agree with this too. @momsparks Keep this in mind too.

Its good being on the waitlist, but make future plans if theyre too volatile and costly in the future based off confirmed decisions.

@momsparks

Even if your son gets off waitlist at Berkeley, he might be offered a spot at L&S instead of GMP.
Did you son apply to Pre Business Economic at UCLA?

@momsparks Both schools are great!

I agree with @StevenToCollege

The system is structured in a way that allows this without repercussions, except maybe an ideal loss of 1 school’s deposit fee of <1000 USD (varies by school)

Where to check who is the admission officer assigned to my daughter? And when can my daughter start enrolling to her classes? Who can help her what classes she should take? Can she take summer classes if she wants? I am not sure about all these things. This forum is helping me to understand and guide her. Thanks in advance!

@Ravita an admissions officer gets assigned perhaps in mid-May. I apologize to those that I mentioned where I thought an admissions officer was assigned right away. In reality, I rarely had the need to talk to my kid’s admissions officer except for dealing with missing AP, AP tests that came in late, and transfer credits that my kid took over the summer that took forever to come in.

In June, your daughter will be taking a class online through the Cal portal that talks about registration among other things. At that point, you’ll also get assigned an advisor as well, i.e. a L&S advisor if that is the school your daughter is in. Finally, there are also advisors for each specific major for which you can either drop in and/or email with your questions - you can probably do that now. For a lot of impacted departments, there are also peer advisors which are more readily accessible - these are usually upperclassmen students.

Enrollment for freshmen happens around the 3rd week of July. I highly recommend that you do not wait very long after your time window to register, in case you were on vacation or something like that. Usually you can get lecture times pretty easily, but prime times for Discussion and/or Lab sections may disappear quickly. Yep, lectures can and do start at 8am (I’m looking at you Biology 1A).

She can certainly take summer classes, and there is summer housing available as well if she needed it. It’s a separate application on the Cal Housing portal if she needs housing for the summer. You can also take UC-transferrable classes at a CCC and transfer the credits over. Evaluation should be done by mid-September if you take this route.

@ProfessorPlum168, Thanks a lot for the detail information. This is really helpful. My daughter is a middle college student in a CCC where she had finished all IGETC requirements even though she is going to Berkeley as a freshman, not as a transfer student. So she was under impression that if she will take any class during summer, she will become a transfer student. I am not sure how much truth is in this assumption. Do you have any idea or knowledge about this thing?
Thanks!
