For what it’s worth, I don’t understand what you mean by “contenders”. I’d assume most applicants think they have a chance at being admitted (everyone is a contender!) and many hope they have a shot at a scholarship - but only a relatively small number are admitted in February, and ~85% of applicants will end up being rejected.

My daughter received an email today from UCB explaining that while a small amount of people were let in yesterday, the vast majority of people will find out in March.
Some more context. Berkeley is not the only school letting some of their top prospects know about admission, some Ivy league schools also send “likely letters” before March.

The recent release has nothing to do with likely letters.
Of course, all who apply for admission are “contenders” - for admission.
I was using the term wrt to the decisions that were to be announced in this go-round, discussed by gumbymom:

UCB: Early Admits Friday February 9, 2024 3:30 PST (included Regents/Chancellor prospective students, MET, Freshman HAAS and Science Pro.”
Thank you for the reply. Not sure why I am being tagged since I did not post the original question but only answered the questions posted. Yes, I am aware that several schools send out likely letters but since this is a UC Berkeley specific discussion which actually has gotten derailed from the original purpose, it is best not to be labor the point any more.

Anyone knows if portal astrology works for decisions in March?
If the process of releasing is the same, and they don’t change the code, it should work again…
how do u find ur calnet id?
I believe the university assigns you one when you are accepted.
I’ve heard portal astrology is different for those who took classes at Berkeley (ie. summer sessions) and already have/had accounts on Calnet. I’m one of those students. Does anyone know if portal astrology will even work for me when everyone starts to get them?

The withdrawal coding part might (see above)… if they don’t change it.
This was a common one in the past for many universities, some decided to change it…
having difficulty finding it through inspect, is portal astrology (if its here for 2025) even up yet?
If it works for RD, you won’t be able to tell until after the decisions are uploaded, usually sometime in the days just before the release occurs.
Be careful messing around with “withdraw”, you don’t want to accidentally withdraw your application.

D23 had a Calnet account as a summer student - and as I recall at the time the portal astrology was not useful for those with an account. She was accepted, but we found out the old fashioned way.

It’s fascinating this hasn’t been fixed. They can’t really be unaware of it after all this time. As I recall, though perhaps with different solutions, there’s been a way to know ahead of time at least back to the HS Class of 2022, maybe sooner.

I forgot what was Berkeley calnet id . My son was last year applicant. I forget everything. One student i know asked what id she should use for calnet , she doesn’t know even her Berkeley portal id. Is it uc application id or email?
Would portal astrology work as of now? should i be worried? didn’t get early admit and i get the “unauthorized” message while doing the current method of portal astrology
