I agree with @awesomesauce8312 , @KDurham .I accidentally sent my ACT to a community or local college in Berkeley instead of UC Berkeley, and I found out in January. I called Berkeley and talked to the admissions office and they said that the only way I would still be considered was if I sent my SAT earlier (thank goodness I did)
Crisis avoided! I found out I did submit but I was looking at the wrong testing date
When you apply to UCs, do they look at your application in the context of your high school? I know someone from my high school last year who had a 4.0 UW GPA, mid 1800 SAT, no subject tests, no engineering activities, and no hardships, who got into Berkeley COE. The only explanation I can think of is that he stood out in the context of our high school, but certainly not in the context of all Berkeley COE applicants. Thoughts?
@appleface47 yeah they look at you in comparison to other students in your high school. It would be unfair to compare you to someone else from a different school if your school offered less AP classes, etc.
@appleface47 do you know what major he applied to in the COE? I applied this year without subject tests/little engineering experience and was nervous because I’d never heard anyone had gotten in with a similar situation.
yes, too late.
I still ahvent recevied the interview for the scholarship. I am going to call up UCB, because I think this is a little unfair, especially if others with lesser or similar stats have been offered scholarships.
Please note that the selection process is holistic. In addition, they also need to spread out the invitation among different majors. My son was invited for the Berkeley and UCLA Regents; however, he didn’t get the Regents from UCI and UCSB. You know, that’s just life.
@lovely9775935 wow that is such a relief because I’m like number 2 or 3 in my high school of 600 seniors. Our high school doesn’t have many APs and stuff
@Schmosby I know he was nuclear engineering which is less impacted than some other engineering majors but it’s still COE
appleface47- you do know that uc berkeley does not take school rank into consideration right? also the admission office will only evaluate you in the context of your school; if you made the most of your school’s resources you should be fine.
I find it funny how you guys are talking about something you have no control over at this point, the best thing you could do now is wait for admission decision haha; best of luck to everyone!
@awesomesauce8312 Yeah, that’s what I was talking about!
Sure glad they don’t take school rank into consideration haha
I found this article from a former Berkeley admissions reader. It’s really interesting-- talks about how they rank students and how race still (kind of) plays a factor in admissions.

Posted this separately but wondered if anyone got an email asking them to call admissions to review test scores?
Random question, Berkeley releases decisions on the 26th, does anyone know what time?
A quick question - I got email about the Leadership Award application, but I decided not to apply for it in the middle of the process of working on it. The admission’s office would not know that I stopped applying for it in the middle - that is, it would not affect my admission’s chance, right?
@ihihihi From what I understand those two processes are completely separate.
@chocolateswag 5PM PT
I am not too sure about the March 26th because admissions usually release decisions on a Friday at 5 pm, 26th this year is a Thursday which means the next day after the decisions people can rant on the officers. The whole purpose of the friday last minute is to protect officers from the endless rants of people asking why for at least 2 days.
So, are people here completely sure it is 26th?
Yes, it says March 26 on the application portal.
Friday March 27th is an administrative holiday (Cesar Chavez Day), so March 26th makes sense.
Oh thanks @tx5athome
