So far, I’ve gotten waitlisted to sb and sd and rejected for la. I have no confidence in berkeley.
@mlegoldstein I’m in the exact same situation. Have you applied to other schools?
@Kaysthing I’m still waiting on 4 schools, but they were all reaches so I’m not expecting anything. If I don’t get in anywhere else (which is what is going to happen) I’m going to the University of Alabama on a full tuition scholarship.
Accepted to UCLA. Waitlisted at UCSD. I have no idea what’s going to happen with UCB.
@sjsprint What?! I was accepted to UCSD but rejected at UCLA… This process is so mystifying! I can’t wait any longer!
@keivnsom don’t worry, I’m I’m the same boat. Got into to UCSD but not UCLA. I really want to hope for Thursday, but I can’t imagine I would get in without getting into UCLA.
@mlegoldstein that’s great you have a back up! Congrats
Don’t be so negative. If you got a full tuition opportunity, I’m sure you’re stellar enough to get into those reach schools.
@adidinescu @kevinsom I got into UCSD and UCD, rejected at UCLA. really crossing my fingers for thursday.
I heard that if you get accepted into a UC, you will get a congratulation email. But if you get rejected, the email you get would say something like “decisions now available online” instead. Is this true?
@escol123 I first got a “decisions are now available” email for both UCSD and UCI, and I got in.
@escol123 I got into LA and they didn’t send me any emails
Do you guys think that Berkeley’s College of Letters and Science will be easier to get into than CoE EECS? After reading the information provided in the link below, I realized that I will have a hard time getting into EECS, which is why I applied to CS at College of L and S. What do you guys think? Thanks!
Edit: Also, I heard that at Berkeley (not at other UC’s, though), engineering professors at Berkeley read the engineering applications, which I found was interesting.

@HopeIReallyGetIn I applied to COE, where did you hear that professors read our apps?
@Schmosby It took me a while to find this article to slightly back up what I said…: http://www.joannejacobs.com/2013/08/holistic-admissions-at-berkeley/
The person (mentioned in the article) who read the engineering application is an engineering professor. This is just one application reader, but I really did hear from a college counselor (no affiliation at all with any colleges) that berkeley engineering applications are read by the department.
But then there is this link: http://admissions.berkeley.edu/selectsstudents
From the second link: “Furthermore, in the colleges of Chemistry and Engineering, Berkeley faculty in these disciplines have asked that readers place added emphasis on sustained achievement in mathematics and science, and have indicated a preference that these applicants take the Math Level 2 SAT Subject Test and a science test (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) that is closely related to the applicant’s intended major.”
So, in conclusion, I guess professors/faculty members at UCB have at least a slight influence in how engineering students are accepted…? But that’s not the same as being read by them, so I guess I might be wrong.
@HopeIReallyGetIn I’ve seen the article by Ruth Starkman. It’s linked to pretty frequently on CC. Check it out:
“While teaching ethics at the University of San Francisco, I signed on as an “external reader” at Berkeley for the fall 2011 admissions cycle.”
Starkman’s now an ethics professor at Stanford I believe. But Berkeley engineering faculty must have some influence because they are the ones recommending the subject tests (which I unfortunately did not take in time for UCs).
@Schmosby I see! I guess that is the original article. I think you’re right. Thanks.
@Schmosby Also, I think she is both a professor of ethics and a professor of computer science, which is pretty amazing. http://vpuewh-public.stanford.edu/viewprofile.jsp?sunetid=starkman
@HopeIReallyGetIn What’s a double major when you’re a double professor lol
also heard EECS is harder than LS CS, but couldnt find any statistics on the latter
Current Berkeley CS/Cognitive Science double major, ask any and all of your questions about admission and i’ll try to answer as much as I can, super excited for some new baby bears to be admitted!
