***UC Berkeley Class of 2019 Applicant Discussion***

My older son is a freshman at CAL. Last year when he was accepted, at his school 10 students got into UCLA and none of them got into Berkeley, 2 others got into Berkeley and didn’t get into UCLA, and only 1 student got into both and she didn’t pick either…she went into the Air Force Academy instead!

My younger son just got rejected from UCLA today. At first he was pretty bummed but now he’s happy about it! He’s decided now his chances are much better that he will now get accepted to CAL!! LOL. I hope so!

He did get accepted to UC San Diego (Engineering), but I don’t think that factors into any of it. But just incase he doesn’t get into Berkeley at least he has UCSD! A great engineering school, and a lot closer to home! Yay!

Good Luck to all of you, and GO BEARS!

My AP scores aren’t high enough - so I didn’t self report any of them. Apparently that’s a big part of Berkeley’s admission process - does not sending mine in guarantee a rejection? If this counts for anything, I was just accepted to UCLA, though I’m not sure if AP test scores matter for their application process. If anyone has any ideas/answers I’d appreciate it!

hey i applied to EECS as an international student from china but after being waitlisted at georgia tech and UCLA i am reconsidering this.

is it possible to still change my major to CS in L & S

Wow what a coincidence.
I was anxious about the same things after getting accepted to UCLA, since no one from our school got accepted to both…And now i’m seeing these stuff about not getting accepted to both…

Does anyone know of people who got into both from the past…? Getting nervous now ugh

I know of at least 3 people who got into both last year at my school.

UCLA and UCB admissions are two different entities. My son and two other students from his high school got accepted to both. Some seniors got UCLA only, some Cal only. Some neither, but other UC’s. Top institutions make decisions on more than just grades and scores so it becomes difficult to know exactly why one student gets accepted and not another. Best of luck everyone!

that myth about not getting into both schools is false… I got into both and some will get into one or the other. Don’t take a rejection or acceptance from UCLA as a sign of whether or not you are going to get into berkeley

I love how much more traffic the berkeley forum is getting now that UCLA decisions are out lol

@notalreadyinuse My interview was on Saturday in LA; I actually signed up for a Business Administration prof but they swapped me last minute to the EECS professor. I could be overly self-critical, but I did feel like he wasn’t satisfied with my answers due to their content, not necessarily my enthusiasm/composure etc.

@sunflowermom I still hope I get Regents at UC Berkeley even if the interviewer doesn’t recommend me (if that’s all the interviewer truly contributes), but we’ll just have to see!

I found out that I was awarded the Regents scholarship at UCLA last night along with the Fast Track to Success engineering program, so I’m super stoked on that and at least have a solid option in UCLA even if Berkeley’s Regents doesn’t work out.

I don’t think there’s any correlation between the UC’s (getting into only berkeley or LA vs both). Many of my friends have gotten into both, some have gotten into only one.

I’m in the “rejected from UCLA club” too! I got accepted at UCSB, UCSD, and UC Davis. Hoping for good news from UCB though! Keeping my head up still

@SirPingPong

Fast Track to Success engineering program? What is that? Did you apply for it, or did they give to you automatically?

Is it possible to be rejected from UCLA and accepted to Berkeley? It appears as though their acceptance rates and rankings are similar but Berkeley prevails as the more “prestigious” school.

@bonniewalton‌ yes, it’s very possible. both schools have completely different people analyzing their apps.

Is it possible to get accepted as an undeclared if the major you pick is impacted?

@bonniewalton I know a girl who was rejected from UCLA and accepted to UCB, Princeton (after deferral) and Stanford. This decision foreshadows nothing about your future decisions!

Thursday cannot come soon enough!

What time do they normally release decisions? (I did not enjoy having to extend my anxiety late into the night for LA)

@insert90‌ Just as UCLA did not match last year’s release time - Berkeley is bound to be unpredictable as well. “Evening of the 26th”.

I got rejected from UCSB, but into UCI and UCD. Not feeling good about Berkeley either. If I don’t get in I’m going to appeal though
