***UC Berkeley Class of 2019 Applicant Discussion***

Did anyone else have a hard interview for the UC Berkeley Regents? I got GRILLED by an EECS professor…he asked me some pretty difficult questions and didn’t appear too convinced with a lot of my answers, and it was about 35 minutes long. Def my hardest interview ever, even out of job interviews and the like.

Does anyone know even if the interview wasn’t super good if you can still be chosen ultimately? Is the interview the only filter after you’re a candidate for Regents? I know 50% of candidates get it.

@SirPingPong‌

Was your Regents interview on Friday or Saturday? My D had hers with a MCB professor on Friday, but her good friend from the same HS had his with the same professor on Saturday. D had a wonderful interview in her opinion, really engaged with the prof, etc. Her friend said he expected the professor to rip the “Cal admitted” button off his shirt and say they made a mistake. LOL. He thought it went that poorly, sounding similar to your experience. Perhaps you caught yours on a bad day as well?

Who knows how they weigh the interview report from the Cal professors when deciding who to award the scholarships to? Not sure how they can distinguish the candidates from each other just based on a 30 minute interview, but it has to factor in somehow. Good luck on Regents, congrats on getting into Cal!

My son was told. Last year, by the Bio-Engineering Professor that interviewed him for Regents that he would recommend to the committee that my son receive the scholarship but he said that he does not have final say. My son did receive it and found out on his Berkeley Portal the same day and time everyone else learned if the were accepted to Berkeley

thank you very much for teaching us kept hope alive!

@StevenToCollege‌ Awesome!! thanks for sharing it :))

UCLA decisions are out

There is a myth going around claiming once you get into UCLA you only have little chance to get in UCB.
Is this true, since I just got accepted by UCLA

I kind of expected rejection from UCLA, but I figured I had a bit of a chance. At an acceptance rate less than seven, there isn’t much of a chance, lol. I would’ve looked to ivies for that. Is there still a chance for Berkeley applicants or will they be ****ed as well? Not sure what this is coming from. I wouldn’t say such an increase in applicants would vindicate such a drop in acceptance rate. Maybe this is coming from the UC system? Just curious as to wether rejection from UCLA suggests rejection from Berkeley. I’d rather be at Berkeley, and I really hope for acceptance. I should’ve tried in and outside of school, lol. I guess all of those things that seemed so frivolous to a meaningful life mattered, lol. I’ve yet to sleep in about thirty six hours, so I’m off to a nap. Good luck, and hope to see you at Berkeley.

sorry if I made this confusing, just many friends told me that rarely people get accepted by both UCB and UCLA.
in other words, once you accepted by UCLA, you are done with UCB.
well, i hope this is not true

Waitlisted at UCLA and UVA in one day. Wow.

UCLA decisions have nothing to do with UCB becausd completely different people analyze your app. I’ve heard of people getting accepted into one or the other, and not both.

so you mean still, no one get both?

lolwut, please stop. Plenty of people are admitted into both, one, or neither. They’re independent. Now shush.

sure thx man
sorry about all these silly questions

Just wondering, for anyone that has an opinion on it:

I understand the admissions processes for all UC’s are independent of one another; however, I was wondering if one’s chances at Berkeley could be presumed to be relatively good if that person were to have a gotten a likely letter from UCLA Engineering for Computer Science and Engineering a week before acceptance. Thank you to anyone that takes the time to respond.

Admitted into UCLA! Excited for UCB decisions…

waitlisted at SD and rejected from UCLA…not feeling great about Berkeley

Rejected by UCLA, Accepted at SB and SD… UCLA was my goal…Sigh… @mlegoldstein‌ I have heard of students getting accepted into UCB w/out the acceptance of other schools! Don’t lose hope!

@keivnsom‌ I know I’m just not expecting anything! I’m so so so proud of everyone who got accepted and they all deserve it so much. I’ll end up where I’m supposed to so that’s all that matters.

Waitlisted at UCLA, I don’t know if it means rejection from UCB or something…
