If you have never lived in LA then I could see how UCLA would look better than Berkeley. But for someone like me ( lived in LA for my whole life), LA becomes boring. I will admit there are so many things to do in LA. For the four years you will be here you will probably never run out of places to go, people to meet, and activities to take part in. Enjoy it, if you are to attend UCLA.
Berkeley looks like heaven to me though Good Luck to ALL!!
omg guys I am REALLY NERVOUS.
I don’t know if I will have the courage to check the decision on Thursday LOL.
I got waitlisted at UCLA…(fell in love with that school too. So sad )
Really hoping for UCB acceptance lol. I’m probably the only person in my school who applied for an American university (I am Canadian )
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!! SINCERELY WISH YOU ALL LUCK!!!
the lesson i learned from this whole process is not to fall in love with any particular school and not to devote too much emotion to any school until you are accepted. otherwise, most of the time, it will become really painful.
i am glad for me the ordeal will be over by the end of this week. good luck to all of us.
Just a quick question, as I’m quite a confused international applicant… Can anyone tell me if Berkeley is better than Stanford or not, and in what ways (or vice versa)? Finances and fees aside, of course. Thank you!
@CarnegiePride This may just be my school or area being that we are close to Cal, but it seems like Cal’s review and admissions is more holistic. Those I know that got into UCLA are the “textbook” perfect students with great GPAs and high SAT/ACT scores. However, I know more people with less stellar grades or scores but interesting life stories and great extra curriculars that got into Cal.
@reedo61 even though you have only posted once I still have to respond to your comment ^^ and disagree…UCLA also uses a holistic review because I am not a “textbook” student. Was accepted to UCLA with a 3.74 UW GPA, 4.10 UC GPA and a 28 ACT. Not a minority either or URM. Hoping to get as successful on Thursday with an acceptance from UCB.
@reedo61 I have to agree with @citybus . I was admitted with SAT/SAT II scores well below the average for engineering (in fact, 200 points below the average for the SAT). Although I did have a great GPA, I’m pretty sure it’s my ECs/essays that saved me because a great GPA isn’t everything. People always try to find patterns in admissions, but in the end we don’t really know what a person actually wrote on their application. They might have thought that their essays were great, but a third party reader could find them sloppy or arrogant.
That being said, I really hope Berkeley is as holistic too… Gonna need it for EECS
Hey guys! Accepted to UCSD, UCLA and BU so far waitlisted at UChicago. Pretty nervous abot UCB still. Does a UCLA acceptance mean a UCB one is likely, especially considering the very similar applicant pool rate? Btw I’m an International applicant.
It doesn’t necessarily work that way… Colleges don’t discuss your decisions. How and in what way UCLA chooses to evaluate your application is not the same way Berkeley will. Berkeley may be a little more holistic for example. That beig said however, there was a reason why you were waitlisted to UCLA and whether that be your scores, GPA, or extracurriculars, berkeley will obviously see that too. It’s just a matter of whether in their minds, other elements of your application will make up for it.
@couplemoreweeks In my school, there are people got waitlisted at ucd and accepted into ucsd & ucla. So you just never know. So try to keep calm and wait it out. There is only one more day to go. Good luck to you.
