***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

@skywalker11 FINALLY someone! any clue what that undergraduate research email could mean? I’m pretty sure the research one isn’t a mass mail cause no one else I know got it except you and there was this huge hash in it and hashes usually aren’t associated with mass emails

Did everyone, other than the 2000 accepted, get a mail on the 13th saying it must be an anxious wait …etc etc, but could meanwhile go thru certain parts of the Berkeley site…and also informed when results would be available…??

@Grisham2020 I did, but I think it’s just a mass email.

@Grisham2020 I got that email as well, as did a couple of my friends. They probably just want to let us know that we aren’t among the 2000 accepted (so we wouldn’t keep hoping that it got sent to spam/lost in the mail/whatever), and that we have to wait until late March.

A mass mail for sure then !

What do you guys think my chances are?

I think my GPA is pretty low compared to other Berkeley students who are accepted, but I think my ACT is pretty decent. My extracurriculars are pretty strong, and my essays were pretty good. I also got an invitation to send letters of recommendation to UC Berkeley.

Any tips on how to handle the regents interview? My interview is in two weeks and any words of wisdom will be much appreciated.

Thanks @10s4life!

I find the various UCs acceptance process interesting:
UCB - early admittance and offered Regents finalist (interview)
UCLA - no guarantee of admittance but offered Regents finalist (two essays)
UCI - early admittance and Regents Scholarship
UCSB - no guaranteed admittance or mention of being a Regents finalist; but, an invitation for a by invite only Chancellor’s Reception.
UCSD - no guaranteed admittance or mention of being a Regents finalist; but, an invitation for a by invite only VIP tour.

They sure know how to make us sweat!

@sd2020 wait did you get all that?!

@dango98: Yes. Two are guaranteed admittance. The other three looks very promising but no commitment at all.
@10s4life: Thanks! I’ve been lurking through several CC posts in the past couple of weeks and reading the “chance me” posts made me very anxious. As you may have noticed it’s only recently that I started to be a bit active in reaching out. One thing is clear, there is no clear pattern on how each colleges evaluate candidates. I just want all the waiting to be over!

Are we positive that the decisions date is March 24th? Where did it say that?

In a mass email.

Recently I called admissions berkeley office to ask them if I could provide some updates to my application and the admission office replied saying that all the decisions has already been made? However, this is not in agreement with the email I just got a few days ago.

Does anyone know if this is true that they finished reviewing all the applications already?

If they are done reviewing, may I know my decision please? This whole waiting thing is painful.

Sadists.

@Desiree2 if that is true, then that is ridiculous. They’re making us wait just to torture us!!! OMG I am so nervous but excited at the same time !!! kfgjlkdgnkjgern

I think they made just the “obvious” decisions, leaving the borderline applicants to be reviewed during this next month.

@skywalker11 I’m not sure about that - I know lots of folks who got into HYPSM etc. and haven’t heard back from Berkeley. I imagine they prioritized Cali residents, but other than that it was probably pretty random, unless you got a scholarship invite.

Did anyone else just get an email about a scholarship from the alumni association?

@0921934 yep just got it. I’ve already gotten the email à month before too.
