***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

it sucks how Berkeley requires higher GPAs for oos but doesnt give us credit for our honors courses.

Does Berkeley use uncapped GPAs for admission or just for calculating their average?

@DynamicProphet Yeah it sucks. I’m Australian, and my UC GPA Is 4.0 but my actual weighted GPA is at least 4.2/4.6 depending on what calculator I use and if I count accelerated, extension and honours courses.

@“Bruin or Ruin” I got into UCLA as an Econ major. Really happy about that because I was not at all expecting to get in.

110 applied and 32 got in from my school in the past 5 years (2010-2015)

@rhdhtai how do you find those statistics?

@sjinae look at a link a few pages back. 3/32 for UCLA last year and it has blank for admitted out of 18 applicants for Berkeley last year for my high school. Not the best numbers for an instate school  lol

A little less than 4 days now… anyone else freaking terrified?

@Anubis13 Terrified is an understatement…

46/216 :((

See, after UCLA denial and UCSD waitlist, I honestly think I have no chance.

I would honestly think that any GPA above a 4.4 UC uncapped for OOS is golden. For Letters and Science, combine that with a high SAT(preferably above 2250) and decent ECs and Personal Statement and you SHOULD get in (no guarantees).

@rhdhtai That literally describes me exactly(in state). Apparently that wasn’t good enough for UCLA, but I applied to an easier major here so I’m hoping I will be able to get in.

@TheGordLord I’m hoping my UC GPA and SAT will carry me to acceptance. They pulled through for UCLA but I really want to attend Berkeley instead.

Being that the number of people applying to UCLA is skyrocketing faster than UCB, and the acceptance rate is less than UCB, and UCLA IS only 3 spots behind UCB on USN&WR does anyone think UCLA will eventually overtake UCB in the rankings?

I honestly don’t think I have a chance at berkeley. If I don’t get accepted, I think I will settle for UCLA.

@Mysonsdad Yes, I think UCLA will eventually overtake UCB, if not sooner.

@jackisawesome Don’t give up! You never know…maybe berkley will be your best acceptance yet! haha

I joined this forum mainly for this discussion to have people in the same boat to relate to but not gonna lie I think you guys are stressing me out more :))

@soppphhh Sorry for that, but I guess that’s what we all end up doing best  We all come here to relax and meet people like us, but end up stressing each other out xD (Like right now, I have 8 CC tabs open :stuck_out_tongue: )

@Mysonsdad I visited both with my daughter. UCLA is definitely on the path to overtake UCB in the rankings. Much stronger momentum. The administration seems much more very determined LA style. I liked their aggressiveness.

The problem, however, is that the entire UC system has been severely undernourished due to inadequate state funding for a long time and with budget cuts etc, most UC Admin people am concerned that all the UCs will see their ratings fall compared to other elites due to increasingly worse metrics on many factors such as class sizes, electives and so on.

ayyyee got rejected from UCLA!!
