@FernCh R & C scholars were admitted back in February as finalists for the award and then were notified the day regular decisions came out if they got it. If you’re a regents scholar you would have a letter on your portal telling you about the award. As I recall some other groups also didn’t have to submit the deposit (maybe EOP students?). I’d call and they’ll let u know if you’re a student they’re waiving it for.
@blueastronomy18 @blue123321 Okay, so when I called, I was told that I needed to SLR in order to change the tuition, so after I SIR’ed, the SLR option appeared and now I just have to SLR and hope that it will change.
@Gumbymom Thank you!
Did any one get into Cal with major: undeclared: intending business major at Haas School of Business???
I am a bit confused about how that goes, and when do we apply to Haas?
I put down my 6 AP classes as planned to take the AP test in my UC Application because I did not know in November which I would take.
In March I decided I would only take 3 of them, and on my Cal Central it says I need to submit the scores for all those classes.
How do I inform Berkeley that I will not take those AP Tests? Can they rescind my admission for not taking them?
@Yaboical Where did you click in order to SIR? CalCentral? What do you mean by SLR appeared?
I hope you got your tuition fixed… Please update any changes.
Does anyone know where to do SIR and answer a couple of questions about your residency and submit forms to finalize the tuition?
@PurpleFox08 - You will be entered into College of Letters & Science for Freshman & Sophomore years. During that time, you will take the prerequisites that Haas demands. Then in your Sophomore year, you will apply to Haas & hope you get in.
The application process will be just like your application process that you’re going through now. Prerequisites completed, extracurriculars, college essays.
Haas breakdown:
50% = Grades
35% = Essays
15% = Extracurriculars
Out of curiosity I checked if EOP students are guaranteed dorms for four years at ucb and no, they are not. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Late to the party but thrilled that my d is going to be a bear! 1400 SAT 4.3 gpa no hooks and she was asked for LOR. I believe her essays and great LOR (two teachers) really boosted her chances.
As I recall you fill out a proof of residency form during the SIR process and the finaid package changes after that.
Can someone help me set up a CalNet ID? I try to login with MAP@Berkeley but it keeps on leading me to a orange forbidden page. Please help.
Is anyone planning to go to Cal Day on April 21st? Has anyone gone to the Cal days in previous years. Is it a good experience for admitted students to get a feel for the campus?
We called IT support and got everything resolved. Part of it might be a delay in when they process your acceptance papers.
@HighSchoolStudent52900 - Yes, I have gone to Cal Day for 2016, 2017 & going again for 2018. It is awesome & not only do you get a massive feel for the college, but also the Spirit. Plenty of food on campus too.
Check here, http://calday.berkeley.edu/tour.php and figure out the times and locations on campus of events you want to go to. Many events are repeated so you can go to multiple events. They also have tons of tours, walking tours, trolley tours, housing dorm tours, etc.
ARRIVE EARLY because street parking is going to be tough. Then walk a few blocks onto campus.
Regarding Cal day, is it worth flying in for the weekend from LA? Is there enough to see and do? Thanks.
Any hotel/ restaurant recommendations?
Yes, students applying to the business major are always admitted as L&S undeclared. Haas does not accept freshmen - you have to take all of the prerequisite courses and apply to the major in your sophomore year. You should also be preparing for an alternate major at the same time, as it very competitive to get into Haas and many students are not accepted.
@ohbuddy2 I also did not properly fulfill the F section, and was accepted to UCSD and waitlisted for UCB- I’m OOS, and have been part of my city’s youth orchestra since 7th grade (I made sure to mention this in the application). If you’re OOS, I think Admissions is more lenient towards completing requirements because school district requirements outside of CA differ. I don’t know your own specific situation, but I think that’s how they evaluated things for at least OOS applicants.
@socalemma - what kind of food do you like? The surrounding area around the campus to the south and west and even the north a little bit has a ton of restaurants.
I live relatively close by so I don’t know much about the hotels. There are a few boutique hotels nearby, and the pretty small Bancroft Hotel is right at the campus. Note that there have been a lot of car rental car-breakins in the tourist areas over the past year, so be aware of this if you plan to rent a car and/or plan to be in SF.
@NonTraditional or any other posters who have experience with the soph year application process for Haas… how competitive is it to get into Haas applying as a soph based on the 50% pre-reqs, 35% essays, 15% EC formula?
My kid is serious about Cal, but are we talking about only 20% of the soph year L&S Undeclared applicants applying to Haas for junior year admission get in, or is it a fairly decent acceptance rate into the program so long as you maintained decent grades? It’s tricky because other decent schools direct-admit kids into the B-school upon acceptance to the university, so having to apply again as a soph could be a bit of a pain in the keister.
Trying to gauge just how competitive the Haas application process really is…
