@parent365 For Fall 2017, there were 777 applications from current UC Berkeley sophomores, and Haas admitted 266, so that’s a 34% admission rate. The class profile statistics are on their website here: http://haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/class_profile.html.
S admitted to Civil Engineering. 1500 SAT and 4.5 UC GPA. Also accepted to UCLA Civil Engineering and Cal Poly SLO for Mechanical. How difficult is to change from CE to ME at UCB? Loves the campus at UCLA, hands-on at SLO but UCB ranking is off the charts!!! Any insight is much appreciated!!
@LittleBear83 Thanks a lot, that data is exactly what I was looking for. So it’s fairly competitive, as expected.
@ProfessorPlum168 Thanks for the tips, especially about the car break-ins! Which are the “tourist” areas to avoid? Any recommendations on where to park on Cal day? Thanks!
I got waitlisted at Berkeley and got the EOP email too. Does anyone know if EOP is only for first generation, low income, or underrepresented. Anyone who didn’t apply for financial aid on the waitlist got the email? Also did anyone on the waitlist not receive an EOP email?
@socalemma there’s just so many places in SF that have had high trends of auto break-ins over the past year or two. But also Berkeley as well, especially in the area just south of the campus. And many shopping malls. The best advice is to not have anything valuable in your car. If you have luggage or a gym bag or computer bag, put it in the trunk. Park in well-lighted places, if parking at night.
Haas Undergraduate Class - Entering Fall 2017.
I know of colleges where you enter as pre-business and have to obtain a certain GPA on prerequisite courses before they officially let you into the business college … and some colleges let you into the business college but won’t let you continue onto higher level courses without getting a good GPA on prerequisites (math, stats, Econ, etc). I guess what I am saying is no matter where you go your GPA in beginning business classes may determine whether or not you can continue with that degree so I wouldn’t worry about getting into Haas … just do the best you can and it will work out.
Rate of Acceptance
34% Berkeley students (266/777)
.58% other colleges (106/1840) - of all those that applied
16% other colleges (106/673) - minus the 1167 that did not meet eligibility requirements … honestly, if you can’t figure out the eligibility requirements before you apply you don’t deserve to get into any business school.

@sadd2000 My d got wait listed and did not receive any EOP. She did not apply for fin aid yet.
To the person comparing UCLA with UCB and CalPoly- if you love the UCLA campus, than that’s where you will do best. It is one of the top 10 schools in the world, and it’s ranking has been improving every year, whereas Cal’s ranking is slipping a bit. But being happy is really the key to academic success.
I don’t understand how Cal can repeatedly send out admit emails and then say “Oops, we made a boo boo.” In mid-March, they notified some applicants that they had received financial aid, then some of those applicants were rejected. Then last week, they notified many wait listed students that they were admitted and invited them to attend an event. I had just bought airline tix, when my son received the “Oops” email. Thankfully, I was able to cancel the flights. But this really says something about the bureaucracy and functioning of UC Berkeley.
@kn0wledge Thx for the advice! You r right. Happy student = successful student
@NonTradtional I went to the dean of academic advising and what I got was the D switched into a Withdraw. Will that be okay? It shows up as a W on my transcript and doesn’t affect my GPA.
Hi I’m a student waitlisted by WUSTL. WUSTL is still my top choice, and I’m still trying to increase my chance of getting admitted off the waitlist… If you can email WUSTL and refer my name, it will help me tremendously. You can leave your contact or email me at jesse_ovo@outlook.com if you are willing to help me. Thank you very much! @sadd2000
If you get waitlisted but are rejected, can you still appeal to UCB?
@chicalmom Probably, but usually you have a week or two to appeal and then you have to write a 3 page paper about why they should admit you. Usually it’s such a large amount of work in such a short period of time that not many people are willing to do it.
@Walter924 Thanks!
Can someone who was waitlisted please post what the admissions letter looks like?
@chicalmom: If waitlisted you cannot appeal.
From UC Website:
For freshman students:
Berkeley, Davis, Los Angeles and San Diego will only allow appeals from students who were denied admission.
@Gumbymom Thank you for the clarification!
@Pablo2017 - Getting a “W” is much better than having a “D” on your transcript & it will have no effect on your GPA. Colleges don’t frown on a “W” if it’s only 3 or 4 of them. You may have to explain it though. You should verify through Admissions that the “W” posted to your transcript.
Good job for following through so quickly & climbing up the ladder until it got done. You’ll be doing a lot of that in college so remember to keep going over people’s heads until you get what you need. Never accept “no” from the 1st person you speak to.
