The FPF program is only offered to students in the College of L&S, so if you’re applying to the College of Engineering, unfortunately FPF won’t be listed as an option. Best of luck!
@FPFambassador . I noticed in previous years FPF was targeted for Spring admits. However it was an option pathway for my daughter who is a Fall admit. Is this something new?
Is there a chance for Global Edge program for Wait listed student?
@pablo2017 I had a D on my transcript that I replaced with an A (some English class). To clarify, my transcript had the grade of “D” on it as well as an “A” with the GPA calculation only involving the “A” (so the D was not factored in at all but it was still on my transcript for everyone to see). I would think that a “W” is better than a “D” (I explained the circumstances of course).
I was still accepted into the college of engineering, so I wouldn’t fret about your situation.
When you check the wait list form after it has been submitted, is the optional essay all clumped together into 1 “paragraph”? Submitted mine and want to make sure it wasn’t just me lol
@mwk123 mine did it too, don’t worry! good thing the clumping didn’t detract from my organization at all :’)
Could anyone please help me find the UCB parents forum on Facebook? I found such forums for all other schools my son has been accepted to, but can’t find one for Berkeley
@marinay, is your son attending Berkeley. I was looking for one too. Maybe we can make one
not sure if anyone knows much about this, but figured i would ask. I’m from kc and was accepted to berkeley, but i am not even close to being able to afford the nearly 70k price tag, even w financial aid and everything. my dad is an attorney, and he pays kansas taxes (obviously) as well as a few other state taxes, including california. Since cal residents are “entitled to a lower tuition because the university is funded by their taxes”, is there any possible way berkeley would see this and help me out? Its a bit frustrating to have to turn down my dream school because it’s almost 70k a year when in state students who pay the same taxes as my family are going for 1/10 the cost :///
@Scarsinstars
While in the past FPF may have been targeted for Spring admits, this is no longer the case. For the past few years, admitted students have been given the choice of traditional campus, FPF, or Global Edge. A student admitted in the Fall may chose to do FPF or Global Edge if they are looking to have a different experience than the traditional start on main campus.
wow harvey mudd is very impressive. Ive heard there’s less than a 1000 students at that school so its very cool that she got in . Congrats to your daughter on both!
That’s literally the whole point of Public Schools: to give education to those in its community from tax money. California residents pay tax money for California schools thus making it cheaper for us. It may be frustrating but that is the whole point of the UC system you applied to.
I was talking to my roommate, who has some inside information because of her job. She says that if people get off of the waitlist, they go to FPF or Global Edge but aren’t admitted on campus the first semester. She also says they got rid of San Fransisco FPF this year, which reduces Berkeley spots, but SF FPF sounded obnoxious with the 45 minute commute, so pros and cons.
@soccerbunny423 your family is not paying the same taxes as a California family. Your dad is paying some CA income tax on a portion of his income is not the same as a resident California family paying CA income, property, sales, and other taxes.
@SoccerBunny423 - In-state students are not paying the same taxes as your family. In-state students are paying much more taxes through their entire salary, their property taxes, vehicle registration taxes, sales taxes all year long.
I’m aware it’s frustrating to see a $70K price tag. My instructor’s advice was that if you take out student loans, the total $$ amount in loans over 4 years of college should not exceed what your career’s salary would pay you in your 1st year working.
For Cal Day, are we supposed to sign up online and pay or can we just show up on the campus?
@omidd
For CoE saw this: RSVP in calcentral (College of Engineering Welcome Breakfast, April 21, 2018 )
Did not see other signup forms.
@omidd Yeah, you just show up. Insane amount of stuff to do. It’s a dense day.
@california32146 @Walter924 thanks!
@soccerbunny423
Contact the Residence Affairs unit: https://registrar.berkeley.edu/tuition-fees-residency/residency-tuition-purposes. No idea whether your dad paying some CA taxes will make a difference but it may. It may also impact whether you can qualify for in-state tuition in the future. Some people pay out-of-state for a year or two, then get reclassified and can get the in-state rate. But ask the experts about the details.
