@Twinmomhell yes that was a bad blunder. Feel bad for both sides honestly. My S was so sad Sunday finding out he didn’t receive that email…but now maybe a blessing in disguise because it’s broken the fall a bit should he not be accepted on Thursday. He almost feels like he’s waiting on a second chance at this point…
This isn’t a back door. This is available for anyone who wants to take classes at Berkeley over the summer. A back door, is when you manage to log into map@berkeley and force the site to release results to you. By your own definition we are doing “dishonest things”, yet this is the furthest from dishonesty. Are we trying to see if we got in or not? Yes. For some of us, we’ve worked 4+ years and put our heart and soul to get into a school, so don’t be an asshat and try to tell we’re dishonest since we’re using all available resources.
It’s like people who line up days before black friday. Is it illegal in anyway at all? Nope. Is it really annoying? Yeah, but some people are dependent on those deals to save enough money to pay their rent or maybe afford college. Are we hacking into cal central? no. Are we doing anything that isn’t using the resources provided by Berkeley? no.
We get it, you’re a parent, must be great not having to stress about whether or not you get into your dream school as mid terms are rolling around. Honestly get off your high horse and telling us what we’re doing is illegal. We all took risks applying to UC Berkeley and we are continuing to take risks in life.
It was cool at first, warning people not to do it in case of getting in trouble, but it’s a little annoying when you’re telling us not to do something when we’ve already chosen to do so. btw you’re not our parent and stop trying to act like one on the internet.

@thexumaker spin it however you want. Reality is your aren’t entitled to that information before anyone else. AND you haven’t worked any harder than anyone else. As for the parent not understanding this process, this single mom has walked through every step of it with both her daughters and WE as parents agonize over this just as much as you do. I will express my opinion if I want, looks like I struck a nerve. I don’t think it was ok for students or parents to try to get into the system to find out admission decisions.
I heard Berkeley doesn’t admit by major. So if I applied for Engineering would there be a chance that they would also consider me for undeclared engineering?

Don’t pull out the single mom pity story on us. My single mother couldn’t guide me through this process, but she would in an instant do almost anything to know whether or not I got in early. It’s like how my hockey coach said, if you don’t go after it, you don’t want it. Maybe as you’ve aged, you’ve matured and no longer take the same risks in life. But that’s also why innovation occurs as the next generation comes to replace the previous one. If you need justification, it’s not illegal to sign up for Berkeley summer classes. And if Berkeley has some terrible design allowing us to gain insight on whether or not we got accepted, it’s own them to fix those issues.
Also yes you struck a nerve. Also, no offense, but just because you were involved in this process doesn’t mean you’re feeling the same emotions and anxieties as some of us. Just as my mom taught me how to do simple addition and helped me with calculus , she couldn’t of possible felt the same stress I felt when taking the SAT or my Calc final.

I work part time at Berkeley, and as such I have had a CalNet account for quite some time. My account does say STUDENT-TYPE-PRESIR in addition to my other affiliation. However, I would be very skeptical of that meaning anything if you applied for the summer classes, as they’re likely to be independent of the admissions (as you’ve seen with people being changed to NOT REGISTERED). Basically: don’t stress out about this, there’s not really much you can do to glean more information. If you got the email, great; if not, don’t sweat it.

@Twinmomhell Hi, I’ve been on this thread for a while, and I really appreciate the parents giving us advice. I understand that the Cal net thing everyone did is not just. However, it happens everywhere. If you check reddit, people come up with various other ways to check their status (such as Brown, UofPenn…etc). I know that you are stressed as much as we are, but we are obviously younger and more immature, which is why we would do certain things that you wouldn’t. But everyone is just that desperate and worried, so we come here to discuss and maybe to relieve stress, and I’m not saying you are wrong, but I think the way you’ve been saying things bothered people. but eveyrone we only have like two days left! lets all relax.

Just please stop. You’re only embarrassing yourself and you’re only adding to our stress. There is a difference between hacking a system, whether it be using a third party source, to see the actual admittance decisions made by AO vs speculating based on differences on we see on each other’s portals. What we did was the latter.
