I tried searching on CC for ELC and its correlation to acceptances but I was unsuccessful. Does anyone have any experience or anecdotes regarding ELC and admission acceptances to UCs?

It is one of the criteria that all UCs use for application review:

https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/applying-as-a-freshman/how-applications-are-reviewed.html

  1. Identification by UC as being ranked in the top 9 percent of your high school class at the end of your junior year (Eligible in the Local Context, or ELC).

More information regarding ELC.

EDITED with new report. https://regents.universityofcalifornia.edu/regmeet/may21/a1.pdf

On the UCB admissions web site one of the FAQs states “a small number of students will receive notification of their decision in February”. Based on last year does anyone have more context for “a small number”? For example is it likely to be closer to 100 or 1000? I expect no one knows but asking just in case someone has insight.

I’ve heard it’s about 2000 kids.

For Fall 2022, around 1,350 applicants were accepted early. No data for last year.

Some interesting data: since Berkeley receives ~130k applications annually, the chances of being accepted early is 1%.

If you guys go to https://auth.berkeley.edu/cas/clientredirect?client_name=Slate&service=https%3A%2F%2Fbpr.calnet.berkeley.edu%2Faccount-manager%2Flogin%2Fcas and log in with MAP@Berkeley, what do you guys see? That link was used in portal astrology from last year.

If posters want to start talking about UCB portal astrology, I suggest you start a new discussion thread for 2024 applicants on the subject so this thread does not get derailed.

Oh, I though only mods started those types of threads. Will do.

Anyone can start discussion threads.

The Official School Discussion threads are usually started by the Forum Champions, Community Manager or Moderators.

They have announced today on their IG story, “There will be early admits prior to March 28, but the vast majority will come out then.” (and transfers on April 19)

UC Forum Champion Note: The information posted was taken off an old 2002 Regents report about ELC admissions. This data is obsolete and the new report was linked in post #270. Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you for sharing the link. “For
example, 73.9% of ELC-eligible applicants were admitted to Berkeley (including spring
admits) while other California applicants were admitted (including spring admits) at a
6
26.1% rate. In the case of UC Irvine, all ELC applicants who met their chosen major
entry requirements were admitted, yielding an ELC admit rate of 98.6%, compared to a
non-ELC admit rate of 53.0%. Campus data for Fall 2001 appear in Appendix Table 4”. Any historical data on ELC accept rates by campus?

When talking about ELC, is that stat applicable for statewide index 9% also? What happens if a student is not part of school ELC but statewide 9%?

Conventional wisdom suggests statewide 9% is better than ELC. No?
My kid received a ELC notification. How to know if my kid is eligible for statewide 9%?

Yes, my son received statewide when checking: how they review your app. But he is also ELC, so which priority it takes when announcing on UC application?

It shows up in the application portal "how they review your app. "

Where?
