A bummer…

That’s a real bummer. I remember Top Dog from my days as a student at Cal.
Breathing a sigh if relief…it’s just the north campus one that is closing. The Durant location is still open.
Ohhh, that’s good. I was wondering how they were going to build a 26 story high rise in that location!
Actually, it’s the downtown one on Center Street that is closing, just west of campus. It “only” opened in 2001.
There was one north of campus on Euclid, but no idea when that one closed.
But wow. Did you read the owners are 80 and 88?
Yes, the one nearest to Berkeley High… a lot of HS students are sad about it!
My son is an incoming CivEng major. Is there an Instagram (or Discord) where kids are connecting to find roommates?
Try ZeeMee and Reddit. There is usually a link to the discord server on one of those.
My son just accepted his admission to Cal! Is there a parents Facebook page and if so can someone please send me the link.
That’s the “Humans of University” page. I expect there will also be one started by real parents.
Yes, I think so - last year there there were at least 3 or 4 different class of 2027 groups. I’m sure other 2028 groups will pop up over summer.
Thanks. So there isn’t one for all parents not just by year?

I meant what’s the downside of keeping it, meaning not waiving it?
I just wanted to put in an update to this: I got in later for my major
Can anyone offer guidance on this Entry Level Writing Requirement? I am confused on what fulfills this requirement. My daughter has scored a 4 on English Language AP test. Does she need to register to take the ELWR? I think a 3 or higher in either English AP test fulfills it but am unclear.
My son just committed and is wondering how everyone is finding their roommates besides Instagram
Yes, your D’s AP score fulfills the ELWR.
Your D needs to make sure the official test score is sent to UCB.
More information on the various test scores that fulfill ELWR here: Entry Level Writing Requirement | University of California

S23 went with the random roommate option, and it worked out well for him. He ended up in a triple, with one roommate who became a close friend (they have now rented an apartment together for next year), and another roommate who was nice enough but wasn’t around much.
