Yes, exactly. It seems right around decision release time, new aliases/ids appear in that other forum to create fear, uncertainty and doubt. This happened for USC early action also, where they said receiving a RD financial aid email meant deferral. The same language was used: “According to ex admissions officers ….”
Well that makes no sense because they dont know your SAT scores…the email clearly says it has no correlation to admissions.
You can meet the writing requirement in multiple ways, but you do NOT need to meet the writing requirement in order to be admitted.
Agree! Makes no sense. But helped having @Gumbymom reiterate that!
Not to be depressing but …
nearly all of the people getting that email will be rejected because almost 90% of applicants get rejected.
On the other hand, everyone who was accepted did get the email.
Is there anyone who didn’t get the email? I think everyone got email. Why does ucb let students take English exams , even they are not gonna get in? It sounds weird.
The exam isn’t until May 11th- so after commitment day.
The email was more like an early Save the Date just-in-case
Do you mean that getting emails are more likely rejection?
The email is totally unrelated to admission decision (which is underlined and highlighted in the email).
I agree it is potentially confusing to receive but they just want all potential future students to know that they might need to take a writing test on May 11th.

Did you mean that 90% of students got email so, it meant likely rejection. I misunderstood your comment? English is hard to me.
Everyone who applies gets the email. Most people who apply (90%) get rejected. Therefore, most people who get the email get rejected. But just because that is how percentages work - not because the email means anything.
It means that the overall admit rate for UC Berkeley is low that the majority of applicants will not be admitted. Nothing to do about receiving the email.
The ELWR is required for all UC’s not just UCB so they are just giving all applicants a heads up so they can plan to take if needed.
I wonder if the email blast is a technical test to make sure their email blast system works since they might send out early acceptances this week. Just a theory. Otherwise, I can’t think of a logical reason to send the English proficiency email out this early.
How much is the Regent scholarship? And how do you qualify?
Its not a test. This is a UC system wide requirement and they are simply sending out timely reminders to applicants. As with any communication, people try to read into these things. I will repeat - there will be multiple such emails (reminders, resources, etc.) and they won’t mean anything.
Not likely.
UCLA send out scholarship info.
UC Davis has their periodic updates.
UCI offered campus tours and info session
Only people S24 has not gotten email from I think was SB and SD.
There were several emails from UC San Diego:
Resources in International studies ( maybe depends on major applied)
Happy Holidays
Financial aid application reminder
A Look at San Diego college system
……
SB just sent email about available portal
And yet, come August, there will be people who claim they did not know about the test and missed it.
May 11 is a tough date because it is in the middle of AP exams. If a student hasn’t taken standardized tests, and didn’t have an AP score from junior year, they should take the exam.
Haha that was my daughter last year! Although they also had a summer testing date so she was able to get it in before the start of fall semester (I think it was in July or early August?). But even if you miss it it’s not a huge deal - you can take the test in the fall or you don’t have to take the test at all and, if you don’t have a test score to satisfy the requirement (either the UC test or an AP score), you just have to take the college writing class at Cal. So there are multiple ways to satisfy the requirement and you don’t necessarily need to do it before fall semester.
