UC Berkeley Class of 2029 Official Discussion Thread

Thank you. My kid submitted the app last night.

We just didn’t want them disqualified because of not listing the AoPS courses in the high school section. So they put a note in the additional information section and listed every single class.

Fingers are crossed now.

Did you get the request via email? How long was it after you submitted your application before you received their request for an LOR? Thx.

For those interested in switching to CS at CDSS after getting admitted to a different major, Cal published the comprehensive review process today:

With the struggle for internships, the interest in switching is probably lower than what it was a couple of years ago.

The interest will always there since the outcomes are still very good at Cal especially relative to other majors. Based on what I hear, internships have been a slog for sure but there is still plenty of opportunities out there.

there has indeed been some contraction in cs job market especially around software engineering jobs and internships, but market is still very strong in other areas. i don’t think students graduating from top cs programs such as UCB should have any trouble finding a good job. also job market in electrical engineering is pretty good.

Hello,

I am trying to read up on the appeal process. Is there a link somewhere that I can read up.
thanks

No decisions have been sent yet. There is nothing yet to appeal.

However, this is the appeal process from last year, if you are interested. It will likely be the same this year.

Q: Can I appeal my admission decision?

A: Any applicant who is denied admission may submit an appeal. (Note: Appeals from students on the waitlist will not be considered.) We strongly discourage an appeal unless you can provide significant new information for us to consider. Our first-year selection process involves a careful, individual reading of each application, and it is very unlikely that we will choose to reverse our original decision. If you do have significant new information to present and decide to appeal our admissions decision, all appeal requests are due by April 15, 2024.

Appeals completed by April 15 will be considered on time and will receive a response by August 2024. In the appeal letter, you must provide significant new information (i.e., semester grades, additional achievements) for us to consider. Advise us of any change in your email address in case we need to contact you during the appeal process.

Even if you choose to appeal, we recommend that you do not delay in accepting an admission offer from another college or university. We do not accept appeals mailed via postal mail, telephone, fax, or email. All appeal requests must be made using this form.

Does anyone know when early notifications will go out this year?

Last year it was Feb 9, so likely around that time, but they generally don’t give any advance warning, they just do it. Within the next two weeks would be the best guess, though.

Here is the UC Berkeley Decision timeline for 2024.

UCB: Early Admits Friday February 9, 2024 3:30 PST (included Regents/Chancellor prospective students, MET, Freshman HAAS and Science Pro. All other decisions on March 28, 2024 3:30 PM PST. Regents/Seeds Invite at time of decisions.

Didn’t a similar policy overblown CS admission, before? Causing the direct admit count to go down to 100?

So Feb 7th or 14th?

I would guess February 7th is more likely based on the historical decision dates.

Hi,
Just curious if there is any admissions data by college, especially R-CNR at UCB

Check this link: Workbook: UG Admissions

Found some old data by GPA:

Hello! Do all Sciences Po admits also get a full time offer from Cal at the same time?

Under the link I provided, you can get the Weighted GPA distribution for applicants/admits/enrolled students.
