UC Berkeley Class of 2029 Waitlist and Appeal Discussion

My son is a junior at Cal who did FPF his first semester. He was not on the waitlist. The program has been around for 40 years.

I was under the assumption that if offered both waitlists (which my son was) you can opt into both, you could either be accepted off the waitlist, or accepted of the FPF, if accepted to the FPF you have to enroll in that program 1st semester

would selecting fpf increase your chances of being admitted off the waitlist?

I’m not sure. Definitely contact Berkeley admissions to clarify your question.

There is only one waitlist.

If you opt into FPF you are saying you are willing to do the FPF program if admitted FPF.

Opting into FPF does not seem to increase anyone’s chances, according to several college counselors I’ve asked.

Their recommendation = don’t opt in if you are not sure you would be willing to do FPF if offered.

anyone having trouble logging in

Q: Can I submit a letter of continued interest, letter of recommendation, or other materials for consideration?
A: No

It’s on UCB’s Guide to Decision Release.

Was anyone waitlisited for IEOR?

And does anyone know about how many were waitlisted in total? A2C poll shows that around 30% were waitlisted but that could be inflated.

Unless admissions will answer the question, there is no way to know exactly how many applicants were waitlisted but you can look over the previous year’s numbers. Again, it is not about how many are originally waitlisted but how many students opt into the waitlist.

I don’t see the option of FPF program. What I see in the waitlist form is only one question of “Would you like to opt-in to the waitlist?”
So they make different WL forms for different people?

FPF is only available to students applying to the College of Letters and Sciences.

do we think the waitlist movement is going to be high this year? it was great in 2023 but pretty awful 2024. maybe the economy had something to do with it

Do we need to write essay for Berkely waitlist? We just opt in. I know they do not need any LOCI. We want to double check if we need to do anything. I checked FAQ too. Thanks in advance!

UC Berkeley no longer accepts waitlist essays so all you can do is opt into the waitlist.

Is it true that someone got off the waitlist for EECS last year? Were they in-state, OOS, or Intl?

Thank you for the reply! I see that you said that last year waitlist schedule was May 15, May 22, and May29. Out of the 26 admitted last year, were most admitted on those dates?
