General Waitlist Information:

  1. UC Waitlists are not ranked and it is not first in, first admitted.
  2. There is no way to determine your chances from being admitted off the waitlist. It will be depend upon how many admitted students SIR and how many spots are open after the deadline.
  3. No specific timeline for waitlist admits. If space opens up before the SIR deadline of May 1, then students can be pulled from the waitlist.
  4. Residency type and major are not broken out for the UC waitlist statistics.
  5. The number of waitlisted students that actually enroll is not listed.
  6. No LOCI’s since UC’s do not consider demonstrated interest. Opting into the waitlist shows your interest in attending.
  7. Opting into the waitlist is by invitation only.
  8. You cannot appeal your decision while on the waitlist.

UC Berkeley Admissions Appeal Information:
Q: Can I appeal my admission decision?

A: Any applicant who is denied admission may submit an appeal. (Note: Appeals from students on the waitlist will not be considered.) We strongly discourage an appeal unless you can provide significant new information for us to consider. Our first-year selection process involves a careful, individual reading of each application, and it is very unlikely that we will choose to reverse our original decision. If you do have significant new information to present and decide to appeal our admissions decision, all appeal requests are due by April 15, 2024.

Appeals completed by April 15 will be considered on time and will receive a response by August 2024. In the appeal letter, you must provide significant new information (i.e., semester grades, additional achievements) for us to consider. Advise us of any change in your email address in case we need to contact you during the appeal process.

Even if you choose to appeal, we recommend that you do not delay in accepting an admission offer from another college or university. We do not accept appeals mailed via postal mail, telephone, fax, or email. All appeal requests must be made using this form.

What do you think accounts for the dramatic change from 2023 to 2024 in terms of students admitted off waitlist? So curious.

To clarify, is the form for appeals is only for denied not waitlisted? Where would we send a letter of continued interest?

I think appeal is only for denied applicant

The appeal form is only for denied students. Waitlisted students cannot appeal. UC Berkeley did not accept any LOCI’s last year from waitlisted students. I have not seen the waitlist opt in form this year so I do not know if they will accept grade updates and waitlist statement or they will not accept any more information. If you could post what is asked on the waitlist opt in, it would appreciated.

so we just opt in and then we wait?

Yes and enroll in another school.

yeh I will prob enroll for UCSD. is it allowed to join 2 waitlists (UCLA and Cal)? also how does the waitlist process work? do they look at major or stuff like that?

You can join as many waitlists as you want.

For those that have filled out the waitlist form- does anyone have further info about this FPF program? Is it something that is offered every year?

Yes it is offered each year for L&S applicants. Check the regular discussion thread for more information.

If admitted off the waitlist into UCB FPF, do you have to attend Berkeley? Is it binding? I have to withdraw from other Colleges? I am bit confused.

No, waitlists are not binding.
If admitted into FPF and you want to attend Berkeley then you have to accept.

On UCB waitlist form, It says ā€œIf admitted I would like to start my Berkeley career with Fall Program for First Semester and I agree to being directly admitted to the program.ā€ The wording is really confusing—I initially thought it meant the offer would be binding if I were admitted. Are you saying that’s not the case? I just want to make sure I can keep my options open.

If you are admitted off the waitlist and want to attend UC Berkeley, you would be required to start in the FPF program if you select that offer. You are not obligated to accept the waitlist admit from UC Berkeley but you can only agree to the admission if you are in the FPF program which is binding.

If you end up admitted into the FPF you are only able to enter via FPF. If you are admitted outside of it you can do what you want. This is my understanding.
