in turn, my school had 15 people get in a only 3 people are going. let’s just hope for the best for all of us!
yeah, I actually saw like 3 students from my country, so international students, also committing to other colleges…
I called today and also asked specifically for Intl students. Heard basically the same thing—class is full. I think the person picked up my call might be an actual AO? He sound more mature.
damn bro js voiced my frustration, I was rejected EECS and met so many OOS students who got in (and committed to the same school as me), should’ve capped it like at UW to prioritize in-state students.
OOS enrollment is in fact capped at the UCs. Yield, however, is lower for OOS (and this is the case in other states as well). So it often seems to in-state students at many schools (including UW… check out their threads!) that they are admitting a lot of OOS students… but they are only admitting a number that would be predicted to enroll under the cap after yield.
Here’s a source for historical data that might be helpful.
S25 withdrew in May as well, along with 2 of his friends who decided to go to UCLA. Definitely melt..
waitlists definitely have been moving at ivies and other t10s with a solid amount of people decommitting from berkeley. the waitlist should probably start moving soon i’m not sure why they’ve postponed it for yet another month to july
They probably originally over admitted (the opposite of what tcp said), so the class ends up being full despite a lot of people decommiting.
I don’t think it’s capped by major though. EECS has a high proportion of OOS applicants, so it makes sense that the proportion of students admitted who are OOS could be higher than other majors while the overall admit rate is within the cap.
EECS and CS enrolled student demographics appear on this page (scroll down)
I do not know how they attempt to balance IS and OOS when admitting students by major. But I do expect that OOS yield is also relatively high for these particular majors, so that might also affect numbers.
Seeing on Berkeley FB parents page that kids getting assigned to temp quad housing in the 1st round - this didn’t happen last year. Mine failed to accept 1st round offer last year, then was offered a temp quad, but fortunately got perm housing offer by end of July. Sorry, looks like those that received a Berkeley offer accepted and they are overflowing??
that could be true but the temp quad housing issue happens every year and every year they say that it’s due to too many people committing to cal
There are also students that have not received a housing offer yet. I have no idea if that also happens every year.
Do you have a chance of getting in if you opted for the FPF?
I don’t know if it changes anything… but i did the same believing it would hahaha
praying we have some movement on monday PLZZZ
I heard a lot is Int students are not accepting due to the current climate and getting visas
so maybe that might make a difference
I hope it does… it would help me a lot hahaha

If intl students turn down their offer, their offer would most likely be given to another intl student.

I called the admission office on Friday and asked specifically for intl student, and they told me class is full.

As an International student, I have dozens of intl friends who got in US universities. Not a single one of them turned down their offer. The mainstream belief (at least in my country) is that nothing would be actually enforced.
That is correct. Instate student will get an offer only if instate students decommit . Same thing for OOS.
