UC Berkeley Class of 2029 Waitlist and Appeal Discussion

I kinda preferred the environment and vibe at ucla over berkeley. Also, ucla math is actually pretty good and they also offer more flexibility with their majors should I ever change my mind. Berkeley has flexibility but not to the same degree. I also really liked the 4 year housing guarantee. Overall, I just felt closer to ucla than berkeley, but that changes from person to person. Just choose which a college you feel you will thrive at best.

really? i haven’t heard of any transfers being accepted yet. same thing with freshmen, can u show us if possible

Bro I just looked into the comment section of that post and people are saying it’s faked because the commit deadline is June 1st. My bad bro. These days there are just too many people t-roll-ing online. I don’t even know why are they doing that.

Berkeley and all those big public schools have a housing problem. When I visited UCB campus a month ago they told me that so

yea but i dont think this specifically would be the reason as to why they dont accept that many people off the waitlist. i remember in 2023 when they accepted like 24% of the waitlisted people off the waitlist, they also sent out an email identical to that

Good luck to you! If I don’t see any movement (either for myself or for others) by tomorrow, I’ll move on as well
One of my friends just got off the Cornell waitlist today and it really makes me annoyed that a public school with a lot of staff can’t just get their stuff together and give a final decision even after the first week of June.

Ngl If there were to be any offers coming out I would expect it to be next Thursday or Friday.

Why next week?

have they normally had waves during the time?

i dont think so, i think this is the first time that they have not had a initial wave in May

oh yea i know abt that, i just meant do they normally have waves next thursday or friday

Nah I think in 2022 they started in mid June. But I suggest you to confirm that with the mod of this thread.

oh actually? we could also check the 2022 waitlist thread to see

yea it looks like only a couple of out of state students got in in the month of june and then no movement and then a rejection email came out in july

i guess this year will look like 2022 with only trickle acceptances and no wave, still hope that we might hear back next week since i saw someone get off the waitlist in 2022 on june 11!

Called today. They don’t know if they’ll be taking anyone off the WL as they’ll have to see a for a couple more weeks to see melt. As of how things are looking like right now, they said the class is full and if there’s any movement at all, you can expect it early July, which is when the WL will officially close as well. But I don’t think I talked to an actual AO, so take this as you will.

Among my acquaintances, three people have already decided not to go to Berkeley. There must be more. Does it make sense that all the spots are filled?

Historically, Berkeley has had a yield rate of about 50% (or about 6000) people who enroll out of the 12k people they enroll. So realistically, for the WL to see any movement, you need A LOT of people to say no to Berkeley (more than 50%). The only large group of people I see saying no is International, OOS students who pay extra tuition and in-state students who have a better option than Berkeley. The reason for a spike in 2023 is because the state allowed additional seats for in-state students, whereas before, there was a cap of some sorts. This year, at my school, about 16 got in and only 3 committed elsewhere. This is only one data point, but basically, yes, it does make sense that all the spots are filled, and perhaps even over enrolled. You need an overwhelming amount of people to say no to Berkeley for the WL to even be looked at, and I don’t think many would say no to Berkeley, especially ones who lucked out because of “holistic” admissions.

Anyways, I think it is best that we all just move on at this point.

what u said about holistic admissions is kinda funny because many kids from my school with stellar stats and achievements were rejected or waitlisted whereas the ones that often cheated their way thru school and often put low effort using AI got admitted. matter of fact, someone who fabricated many of my ECs as their own got in while i got waitlisted LOL. definitely not hating on under achieving students who get in but the system is not very nice to those who deserve an acceptance.
