It’s possible that the current level of economic uncertainty is contributing to higher in-state yield, compared to what admissions offices originally forecasted. And likewise, it’s possible the OOS yield may be lower than forecasted. So to maintain the ratio they want, they might just have more OOS spaces opening up.
Agreed. 1 OOS student is equal to around 2 in-state students in terms of tuition. Espically with all the budget cuts with colleges going on right now, I think they might be prioritizing OOS spots to help keep it afloat. Though its mainly private schools getting budget cuts, its definitely possible that it will affect public schools, espically with schools of calibar like UCB that have such big influence and voice
ahh im praying with you!! hope we both get in!
hopefully when another batch in may or june comes around, they accept more in state students off the waitlist
how do i change my residency status to oos fr
NO ACTUALLY like what is happening
yeah its so frustrating im on the wl for 4 UCs and i really hope i get off of at least 1 cuz i don’t really want ot go to cc
Keep hope. With 4 WLs, things will hopefully work out for sure.
of course i am! but i’m just worried its false hope since in-state wl acceptance chances aren’t looking great
i’ll pray for the both of us lol
idk if this might help anyone but i heard that there are seperate waitlists for oos, in state, and intl. so maybe we still have a chance!
yeah thats probably true. i hope that works in our favor and not against it
Is there any news of Berkeley’s waitlist moving? Or only for UCLA so far?
no berkeley yet from what ive seen on cc and reddit
Guys it might be over. From the current no movement status we can observe that Berkeley probably went conservative with yield rates unlike schools like UCLA. They will most likely accept 40-100 students from waitlist this year, like what usually happens in the past. The spike in 2023 is not gonna happen again. The only reason they admitted so many is that Newsom reversed a court ruling that limited the number of students that Berkeley is allowed to admit.
Berkeley decision release was also a week later than UCLA. Perhaps their first waitlist movements will also be a week later, perhaps on April 30th.
To be fair, Berkeley has never accpeted anyone off the waitlist this early. I’d argue that there would actually be more admits than last year but idk how how much
I think there were 24 or 25 admits off the WL last year–total.
Yeah that’s why I estimated 40-100 admits this year.
Also, someone on Tiktok (unconfirmed; you can email and ask the admission office if you would like to) said they asked Berkeley’s dean, and they said that if there is going to be movement, it’s going to be in the first week of May.
