UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Waitlist Thread

Also UCLA informed me that I got accepted off the waitlist on May 30th, which is INSANELY early! So I have high hopes that Berkeley will also release decisions early as well! Also keep in mind that I am in state.

Yeah, there are many many sunk costs with being on the waitlist for another school. I had to send my transcripts ($20), apply for housing ($34), send test scores ($30), on top OF SIR ($250). All that TIMES 2, if I get into Berkeley.

Edit: being on the waitlist is expensive af

Guys, they extended the amount of time to accept Berkeley acceptance to June 2nd. Idk if that’s good or bad for us.

Might this mean that many people did not accept yet their offer yet?

They said it’s due to some technical issues on the past weekend. Apparently they believe some people were not able to submit their SIR during the those two days. But, I mean, how is this 24-hour extension going to make a big difference? Do folks really need that many hours to click on the “Accept” button?

I agree! I don’t think it needs two days to complete that part! Plus who would let that decision for the last day ?

Sorry for being rude. I know those admitted students have every rights to submit their decision at the last moment, and they surely deserve it. But Berkeley has got to fix their buggy website.

My friend had 0 issues accepting it last night. He wonders if they are significantly less than usual. But it stinks hopefully it doesn’t take a bunch of spots that would have been for waitlist.

You mean they are extending the deadline to get more people accepting their offer? Hmm
 that sounds sketchy.

exactly
I wish they would honor their dates and prioritize those on the waitlist who truly want to attend. Seems like they really don’t want us lol, they can def fill the rest of the transfer class with waitlist students.

They extended the deadline because Berkeley’s CalCentral website (where you go to submit the SIR) was broken for a while on Saturday and down for maintenance for 12 hours yesterday. It has nothing to do with the number of students who have committed to Berkeley already; they are just making sure that all of the students who were accepted have a fair chance to accept their offer since some people were unable to do so on Saturday and Sunday.

Hmm, how bad was it broken? My friend was able to SIR yesterday but maybe he just got lucky. Either way, at least we didn’t get rejected yet lol.

Thanks for the sharing that info. It’s a bit mysterious to us because none of us here have access to calcentral.

Do we have to upload our final Spring grade to the portal? I only remember it saying that it is optional in the waitlist opt form

Guys UCLA’s waitlist is crazy this year my friend just got off the waitling with a 3.46 gpa for computer engineering i dont know how but i think it was a miracle lol btw he comleted all the pre reqs. Personally I didnt apply to UCLA cuz i dont know why I really hate that school and im living in LA lol.
Im pretty sure Berkeley will release its fist wave sometime this week and we all will get in. Now i’ve SIR ed to UCI as a Data Science major but hopefully Berkeley will come in clutch since Berkeley is my dream school. Good luck y’all
(in-state student)

UCLA and Berkeley consider their applicants holistically, which makes GPA less significant. Maybe your friend has something distinguishable that really stands out. That being said, 3.46 for CS major is definitely amazing.

i dont see the SIR deadline extension having any impact here. anybody who SIR-ed somewhere else by June 1st isn’t going to just decide to SIR to berkeley cause the deadline was extended. Anybody who wasn’t able to SIR on June 1st cause of website issues would have SIR-ed on June 1st anyways if the website wasn’t broken. So i doubt there should be any significant amount of people that take up spots.

I don’t know about other people, but I’m not very concerned about waitlist spots being taken. I just want a result ASAP,. Any result is fine, so I can carry on and plan for the next move. I believe many of us here have deadlines to meet and perhaps summer courses to schedule. I need certainty over acceptance :frowning:

@chrispuppy absolute best case scenario we hear by Friday or Monday/Tuesday. I think according to previous years anyone with more knowledge correct me if I am wrong.

Where is everyone going if you don’t go to Cal?
