Lol kind of ironically I had TAP and focused on the UCLA prereqs and finished them all. Killer essays 10/10 Extracurriculars but it didn’t go my way. ironically for my major at Berkeley, it actually accepts significantly less and I’m missing prereqs lol. My school messed up my tap form and put the wrong major. So I’m leaning towards UCSD as they are top 2 for my major, I still can’t believe I didn’t get into UCLA. my counselor put mechanical engineering instead of Cog Sci on my TAP app lollll

If I don’t go to Cal I’ll be going to UC Santa Cruz, at first I was leaning towards Davis but I got the Regent’s Scholarship at UCSC so I submitted my SIR there instead. I’m a psych major! 
When does the waitlist decision come? Any specific date?

Submitted my SIR at UC Santa Cruz so that’s my backup if Berkeley doesn’t work out

berkeley extended the deadline for SIR. expect friday afternoon earliest.

I thought I would have had a harder time getting in their but apparently not. If it turns out that Berkeley says no I’ll be fine, UCLA’s marketing team definitely got me. I’m happy with either but Berkeley is still number one.

Normally I would follow the advice and treat waitlist as rejection, but this year is anything but normal. Even if I get in, I still have mixed feelings. On one hand, I really like Berkeley, both the city and the school. On the other hand, getting into dream school because of the pandemic makes me feel like I’m taking advantage of the crisis to steal an opportunity that was not intended for me.
@chrispuppy You had 0 control of the situation at hand. Don’t feel guilty. With college admissions, there are always a lot of variables at play. I had TAP for UCLA with all prereqs done, great GPA, killer essays, and extracurriculars. I have had an extremely rough journey the past few years I described. Not even waitlisted, while someone I tutor who is on academic probation for cheating with a 3.3 who is missing prereqs(for the same major) gets in. Its how life goes sometimes. I am missing prereqs for Cal I was happy to even be waitlisted lol. Also, consider we don’t know the stats yet its very possible schools just accepted fewer students this year and any other year we would be accepted. I feel its a good sign they extended because maybe they were having technical difficulties but if they were at capacity imo they would not have extended the deadline. I think they may possibly be seeing lackluster numbers and will use the waitlist to some extent. Be optimistic! Just don’t put all your eggs in one basket the same way I did with UCLA.
I hope everyone here releases we all accomplished a lot to even be on this waitlist. The majority of my friends with perfect 4.0s among the rest of their stellar apps were flat out rejected. Don’t be ashamed in any way! My backup is UCSD since their cog sci program is arguably the best in the world! I would prefer going to cal though as its more CS focused.
Lol. Imagine getting accepted and then realizing a 9.0 earthquake hit the Oakland area. Or in the other words the “BIG ONE!”
Do decisions for the waitlist come out on random hours? Or is it always 3 pm?
