UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Waitlist Thread

@WhalesDeluxe Yes!! Hoping to become a judge or even political advising in the future. Super cool to know someone’s in the same boat. At least if we get rejected we can link up at Irvine loool

Man, you guys are right. What got me was when they said “We overadmitted LAST year” so I assumed they were talking about 2019, hence this year is 2020 .

@bearorzot are you part of the Instagram UCI group chat?
Hope you get into Berkeley! Berkeley was my dream school too but it’s really far for me& UCI isn’t as far.

@harryjackson1 I know me too! I thought the same thing too! Sorry for scaring everyone lol

@WhalesDeluxe I’m scared of emotionally investing somewhere I might not go haekfjsd so I haven’t joined yet. If things don’t go well here I will definitely be playing catch up in all the UCI circles though! Luckily I have a friend who already goes there so it might be easier.

Also it’s the opposite for me! I’m right next to Berkeley so I’m like… please… LOL

also lol don’t worry about the scare ya’ll I know we’re all just tense as heck and it made sense to jump the conclusion considering its wording and the fact that it was updated recently.

@WhalesDeluxe yes I can confirm those slides are for data from last year! Those were from the presentation in May, way before opt ins were even due! Hopefully we have a good chance in the coming days/week

@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS”
I feel you. I’ve been working full time in several jobs(60+hours/week) while attending community college full-time. Due to some family problems, I had to support myself for everything about a college education(including living expenses, and even community college tuition is very expensive as an international student. I had to work extremely hard to pay my monthly bill while saving for transferring and maintaining a good academic performance. It ends up I spent 4 years in community college and 130 transferable units(I also have some bad grades but I didn’t retake them because it costs a lot of money. I don’t know if this is a minus to my application compared to the other 2-year all A students. ) Therefore, I really understand how hard it is to manage time on working and studying and everything else happening in life. You are doing great! Most of the experiences are hard to summarize in a 350-words essay. Maybe the admission process did not see those sparkles at the beginning, but they will shine brightly in the long run for sure. I really hope there will be several waves. Wish everyone here the best!!

EVERYONE RELAX. One of my friends JUST got in to HAAS (Business Major) with a 3.5 gpa. Lets be honest that is pretty rare, which is a good sign for anyone that has a higher gpa. Trust me there are going to be a lot more acceptances coming soon within this week and next week.

Hey guys. I have been stalking this page since I first got waitlisted, and Ive been refreshing it every single day to see everything thats going on. I decided me stalking the page crazily was kind of unhealthy, so I decided to make an account to at least contribute too lol.
I am a community college transfer psych major with a 4.0 GPA, never have scored anything less than an A all throughout college. I have taken all requirements, followed the pathways, etc. I got into all the colleges I applied to besides the Berkeley waitlist- UCI, UC Davis, UCSC with a merit scholarship, and a private in my area. The private in my area (Santa Clara University) was the only school that requires a response June 15th rather than 1st. My parents were not going to be able to pay the deposit and fees for another school just to have me switch to Berkeley, and if we payed for one of those I wouldn’t have been able to choose Berkeley if I got in. So, if I dont get into Berkeley by the 15th, the only school I would still have time to accept is the private. Its a good school, but I really do not want to have chosen it over all the great UCs, so I have a lot riding on this. I honestly can’t sleep, and I wake up with crazy anxiety every morning checking my email and constantly refreshing the portal in hopes of one of the glitches. I worked sooo hard for this and everyday its starting to seem like its impossible and I will never get in. Other people from my community college got accepted directly with 3.5 GPAs and no special extra curriculars, so I dont get why a lot of us with higher scores didnt. I just wanted to say thanks to all the positive people on here who keep replenishing hope, and I know there are a lot of smart people on this thread who have all worked super hard and deserve it too. Its nice to see Im not alone lol. And I really hope the last few pages are right, and we all have a high chance of getting in any day now.

Glad someone can sympathize with how it feels to know you work just as hard as anyone yet doesn’t get the same results.

I got out of the waitlist yesterday, but I’m still thinking if I choose UCB or UCLA because UCB admitted me for the spring semester in 2021;-;

Congratulations! Did you apply for fall 2020 and spring 2021 for UCB?

Thx!! I applied for fall 2020 for UCB, so might choose UCLA.

 Please if you could, choose as soon as you would be normally comfortable with. Who knows, maybe your position could mean an exact spot for a specific poster in either one of these UCLA or UCB threads. I hope everyone here gets in! I think this admission time and this thread has been a rollercoaster for many people and I am very glad with how supportive people are <3 Honestly you all deserve it.

Especially with the pandemic, for me it is very easy to obsess and check this site many times a day xD. GL all!!!

I have to agree with @harryjackson1.

This really has been such a rollercoaster for each and every one of us. I’ve been stalking this thread and refreshing it every day since the waitlist announcement back in April. Being waitlisted is already something a lot of people don’t expect, but being waitlisted during a pandemic clearly takes the cake.

I really appreciate you guys being really informative and supporting during these uncertain times. I will continue monitoring this thread to see if I can provide any support and if anybody has questions about anything.

Stay strong, guys. I’m praying that everyone here gets off the waitlist.

Did anyone hear anything today?

I completely agree with having a hard time with the decisions when people with 3.5 GPAs got in the first time around. I’m a psych major with a 4.0 did tons of extracurriculars at my community college too. I got into UCSC with a merit scholarship too haha! That’s where I submitted my SIR. Just remember that if that’s the kind of drive you have you will be successful at any school you end up at. Wishing you all the best of luck!

no, no glitches or anything

Hopefully tomorrow a lot of us hear back

Have been in this thread from the beginning and never posted anything, but after seeing @girlxstyles sharing similar experience decided to register and join the conversation as well. I’m 26 y.o. female, transferring from ccc with architecture major. GPA 3.87, last year and half (all required and major classes) completed with A’s . Started college 5 years ago, and first few years were A’s with couple B’s, but also multiple W’s since I had a rough situation and was working 12 hours everyday. Switched major from computer science to architecture, have beautiful portfolio with advanced graphics, strong recommendations from many people including chair of architecture & engineering department from my college (sadly, Berkeley doesn’t care and I can’t upload it). Don’t have volunteer experience but built an official .edu website for architecture department in my college. Personal situation - political asylee, ran away from my country after parent’s death due to a conflict with government. Have a little sister left. Since 17 till 21 instead of studying was working day and night to pay off debts which parents left. Now, can’t choose other schools except Berkeley, because absolutely cannot relocate, and will not be able to afford private schools in SF. All my classmates from college got into Berkeley with this major, and me, with the highest grades and unique personal circumstances - was the only one waitlisted. It was so hard for me to do everything I’ve done, and all the professors and counselors were sure I’ll be accepted. Finished last semester with 4 more A’s in Architecture 2, Physics, Critical Thinking and Calculus for Physics. Crying everyday since was placed on the waitlist.
