We aren’t even sure if there was a “wave” in the traditional sense. So far only 3 total people on this thread have gotten in off the waitlist. That is more a ripple than a wave. We also haven’t heard of anyone being accepted from the wait list recently so people are assuming 1)The wait list is trickling out incredibly slowly and it won’t be until the end of June that this is finalized. 2) UCB will choose a date before the end of June to release a wave of admissions . 3)UCB is basically done pulling from the wait-list and they are waiting until July 1st to inform us just in case some people rescind their acceptances.
Alright, guys, I need some advice, do I stick with my commitment to UCSD for Cognitive science with a specialization in machine learning. Or do I stay another year and make another run to get into one of my dream schools(UCLA, CAL)? Factors: if I go to UCSD I will graduate by age 20, low income, current GPA:3.58(includes garbage classes from when I was 14), I can raise the GPA to a 3.7, TAP certified, missing 2 pre prereqs for each school for UCLA there a bunch so after a certain level they are recommended but not required. If I reapply I’ll have a 3.7+ GPA, every class they want to be done, TAP certified, (Already have killer volunteer work and ECs). I would think its sound logic that if I am waitlisted and then I do the things to make my app more competitive I will get in idk? any advice(I don’t love UCSD if I am being honest).
Hope we could get satisfying results. I personally may stay another year but mainly pour my efforts in GRE. Anyone else who is interested in a GRE study group? I am so upset and scared these days. I cant sleep well. So I start working on GRE verbs. Those are so hard to remember as a second language user@ @ By the way, I really miss those hard berkeley problem sets : (
Well, if you don’t love UCSD at all, I guess you’ll regret it for the rest of your life if you chose to go there especially when you believe you have strong chances to get into your dream schools. I would suggest trying for another year if there’s no much financial pressure and etc.
@givemethemail What do you mean by this? Has UCB been in contact with her or is she just making assumptions that she will get in tomorrow? Did she get one of the admission glitches?
@givmethemail Gotcha. This makes sense. I personally think that the most likely scenario is that UCB is trickling out their waitlist slowly this year and there isn’t one huge wave. It is more like a slower but more constant stream of acceptances this year. That is the story that UCB reps have been sticking to.
According to to today’s FAQ, "Spaces are never settled. It all depends on how many students accept and/or decline their admissions offer w/in their colleges. There is no timeline it is sent. What we know is they will be sent by end of June.
I don’t think UCB has ever done this. They usually admit people in waves. However It’s entirely likely that because of the Covid situation they are handling their waitlist entirely different this year.
Personally I think all signs point to there being a slow trickle off the waitlist this year. This means that some people might be getting accepted off the waitlist into late June. For the most part that has been the most consistent story said by the UC reps.
I think it is safe to say that there will be no waves of admissions this year. They would have already been noticed by now.
The most we could do is just check our emails once a night since there is really no set date on when one of us will be accepted. I would also start sending in transcripts to the other SIR’ed school. Transcripts are due July 1st and it takes about two weeks to send them out in some cases.
