UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Waitlist Thread

@Quarentinetingzz
Hey! Yes, I am from DVC. You?

@ShmopyShoj
Oh, it’s very different for Architecture. We cannot use TAG or any other placement programs, and there is a very limited number of schools in California, I would say around 7-8. For some of them I haven’t yet completed requirements, some want transfer students to start all over again from the 1-st year, and others are extremely expensive yet not recognizable in the field. So this year it was basically either UCB or UCLA I could transfer to, and I decided not to apply to UCLA because it would be too difficult to relocate. I was assured, because my college has the largest number of students transferring to UCB every year, and everyone are always accepted to the College of Environmental Design. We have a wall with pictures of students transferring there every semester with Architecture major.

@NickAppliedMath

That seems about right. Only correction is that it seems as if UCB did have a wave this year but it was a very small one. This first (small) wave was assumed to fill up most of the wait list spots and now there is a small trickle of students being accepted to fill the few remaining spots left.

@mimininja

I see, yeah being an architecture major does change things. Regardless I think it is pretty crazy for a CCC to make assurances that you’d get into Berkeley. At my CCC all counselors made sure to never make “guarantees or assurances” when it came to talking about chances of admission at other schools. The only guarantee you are ever gonna get when transferring is from TAG. Funky stuff happens all the time. Berkeley is tough to get in no matter what CCC you go to.

I don’t think the number of students who got on June 9th qualifies as a wave lol. I think so far there are 3 that we know of on this site, there are others off the site but if you want to know what a “wave” is go to the UCLA waitlist. This is like someone not turning off the faucet all the way and its barely dripping lolllll.

@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS” I can’t disagree with that. UCB did us all pretty dirty tbh. Good on UCLA for following through with their WL.

@Quarentinetingzz
Lol please tell me you are also from DVC. At least I’ll have a company in being the first and only Architecture student from my college rejected by UCB. If you’re from there - it’s Kate.

whats a glitch?

@ShannonVoong
The legend says that admitted students will see the day before being notified by UCB how yellow box in their application profile disappears, and Decision FAQ’s turns into Admission FAQ’s.

@ShannonVoong on your portal where it says Decisions Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) . . . It’ll change to Admissions Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). It’ll do this the day they updated your status and you’ll see it by the next day.

please, someone, say it’s over and please tell me not to check and reload my portal every 5 minutes. I’m going crazy! It’s over, it’s over ?

@Grinder1212

It’s not over over. Maybe one or two other people from this thread can still get in. I’m gonna start making preparations to attend another school while still checking my portal somewhat regularly.

@mimininja Lol no I’m from Chabot. Like four people from my college applied to UCB two got in I got waitlisted and the other got flat out rejected. I’ve heard DVC is good for transferring to Cal Poly SLO, is that true? have a lot of your classmates gotten admitted there?

Also I was looking at the freshman thread and I saw that people were still getting admitted in early June which is insane how it’s been taking them so long to finalize their classes.

If it means anything, I live near both Ohlone and Chabot(In btwn) and I chose to attend De Anza. ALL that matters is to complete as many prerequisite as possible. That is literally it. Why Deanza has such a better reputation is because for my major and other majors, it offers 5/7 classes while ohlone only offers 3. Just try to complete as many prereq as possible.

For counselors, always try to get in contact with a representative from the target school. Do not rely on the college because it will always be unreliable. Or if it is like an essay you can ask specific english professors.

I have similar issue. I didnt just apply for berkeley but my application had a focus on it…I feel betrayed

this is just unreal. i was waitlisted last year and rejected after waiting for 2 months. crushing after nobody got in at all last year. this year, almost the same thing again. Waitlisted, waiting 2+ months, and most people will probably not get in.

@Quarentinetingzz
I am not hundred percent sure about all students this semester, but most people I knew well - applied to UCB and got in. Those from my group who are applying to CalPoly will be taking at least one more semester in DVC to complete requirements. I wouldn’t be saying that DVC is any different for transferring to Cal Poly SLO, because we normally have 1-2 people who transfer there every semester and all the rest (like 20-25 people) always get into UCB and UCLA.
*Architecture major

@Quarentinetingzz
*I looked at the number of classes that Chabot offers and was shocked to be honest. To transfer to Cal Poly SLO from DVC the prerequisite consists of like twice more Architecture classes. Maybe that’s why people saying that DVC is good for transferring there. I am taking two more full-time Architecture semesters in DVC and taking Calc II and Psysics II during this summer to apply to CalPoly SLO, while I already have everything completed for UCB/UCLA.

Anyway, let’s look at it from a different side - UCB doesn’t offer Bachelors in Architecture, and it’s better to go to CalPoly or other accredited school and get licensed right after graduation instead being required to get Master’s first when you go to UCs.

Well… glad I got into UCLA. Goodbye Cal, thanks for wasting my time. Go bruins <3

^ Awh man is this the point of the thread where we all convince ourselves that we didn’t want to go to Cal all along? lol

We in the bargaining stage now.

:’ (

Lol if I got into UCLA I would have chosen it over Cal, I TAP(ped) UCLA and focused prereqs for UCLA and finished all of them. I’m surprised I even was waitlisted at Cal missing the number of prereqs I’m missing. I’m going to reapply and give it one more shot I recently turned 18 so I have extra time anyways rather than going to a school I don’t want to go to.

@ShmopyShoj
Yeah, and I am glad I entered this bargaining stage soon enough to not miss registration for summer classes in my CC.

Those people who got in other UCs - please don’t be sad. I’m sure all the architecture students in this thread including myself would be happy to have such options.

Good luck to everyone! And I guess I will be saving myself and my talent for Cal Poly SLO which cares about student’s GPA, portfolio and achievements. Lol
