@heyigotnoclue
I am 26, had to put so much effort to even be able to apply, so I would be happy with any semester offered without a single doubt or question.
I have a question to all of you guys. There are few students in this thread including me who haven’t applied to any other university and logically will remain in the waitlist till the end. I’ve seen some who decided to remain on the waitlist after accepting offer from a different school - just for fun without any intention to actually go to UCB. And what about others?
How many people here were already accepted to other schools and do you have deadlines to accept your offers? Can you decline your offer after you accepted it, so you could stay on this waitlist and choose UCB instead when decisions are released?
my backup is another california university but not really wanting to go due to no housing for transfers this year and extremely unfair financial aid (they raised the price) so im still waiting for my financial aid to go through but it left a sour taste in my mouth if im being honest. first choice is bezerkley
yes, you had to accept a school by june 1st and you can decline your offer after you have accepted it - however, you have to cite that you were on a waitlist and you got off as some schools may have requested that. you can remain a waitlist and wait for UCB to answer.
hope that helps
@heyigotnoclue
Thanks for the answer! I was really curious how this process goes. I thought that the declining process after June 1st might not be that easy, for example tuition could be already payed etc.
@mimininja - nahhhh last i checked, you pay tuition pretty late - ur good
its kind of useless what the admission reps say tbf. only office of admissions can give an an accurate answer
I committed to a UC last year but declined the offer last minute and instead stayed at CCC for another year. I had about 3 other classes to finish major prep and I decided to take them at CCC instead where they’d be much cheaper. It is really easy to rescind an offer even after submitting an SIR. All I had to do was talk to admissions over the phone and they dropped me from the school that same day. Fees aren’t due until about August, so I didn’t even lose any money.
However, It is already June 17th. If transfer students attending Berkeley decide to rescind their offer then they literally have no backup plans anymore other than to return to CCC. It is too late to accept an admission offer to another school. For this reason, I cannot see any transfer students rescinding their offers even with today’s announcement. It makes little sense to go back to CCC once already at Berkeley because I am assuming they have already taken all the lower division classes they needed.
The best we can hope for is that admitted transfer students are able to defer to Spring 2021 and that opens up spots for Fall 2020 that can then be taken by students on the waitlist. Maybe some students might even decide to defer until next year.
Agreed, only the admissions office knows what is actually going on with the wait-list.
I am gonna try to remain patient. If there is no word on wait-list status after June 30th though then I might reach out to the admissions office for clarity. I do not want to annoy them with an email rn since I am sure they are busy enough.
That being said, they are under no obligation to say what is happening with the wait-list, so who knows if they might even offer any clarity.
You know that nickname too hhhhhh
go bears lol

I accepted Davis but Berkeley is my first choice just due to not wanting to move and the slightly higher rates of grad school admissions from my major at Berkeley vs Davis. I SIR’d Davis super early to guarantee a spot somewhere though. I’ve been doing transfer prep for Davis but somewhat dragging my feet as I don’t want to invest too much time only to go to Berkeley. To your last question there’s an option on my Davis portal to rescind my SIR, no drawbacks and I can do it at any time before officially enrolling in classes.
@CalHerp - glad im not the only one dragging my feet ;-; its like I know i should be doing something but I cant help holding out hope LOL

Me too. I really want to get off the list
i emailed admissions directly. will update if anything comes from it
just an FYI - if you email the specific college that you are applying to, you will get a clear response about the waitlist
Heard back via email and not the answer that I wanted - best of luck everyone.
@heyigotnoclue If I could ask, was it the College of Letters and Science?
