when you say a clear response is it as in they will give you an answer that is specifically for if you would get in or not? or if the college you applied to have any more spots to accept waitlisted people?
Sigh to answer your question, I asked my other friend who is also waitlisted for the B school and then she also emailed them - same response - she said her email said that it was max capacity.
Sigh. Was hoping to go but it did not work out - best of luck everyone and I don’t know about the rest of the colleges but if it is one of those specialized schools like bus, reach out. Not happy at all about the lack of response from the main admissions department though.
yes i have two backup options along with another waitlist.
word of advice - ALWAYS HAVE A SAFETY SCHOOL TO FALL BACK ON - waitlists don’t usually give you the best option.
@givmethemail Does UC Berkeley do Spring applications near October? I thought they didn’t because I tried googling it. If so, it must be lesser admits right? If you know the deadlines please tell me because I am denying UCSD for another attempt as well. However, with the online format I have been struggling to find my EC opportunities under my major CogSCi.
As the time nears the close I guess my final hope would be the 20th. 2017 marked the point where there was ever a 2nd wave and it was at that time. 2017 seems close but 3 years has marked a drastic change of how they have conducted waitlists. Otherwise, it will just be like 2018 and beyond, meaning only one wave and nothing else after that point, which seems to be the most likely bet.
In 2018 there was some stragglers. No idea on how many of these late admitted people got in but I know of 2 people who got off that waitlist pretty late that year. One got in on the 23rd and the other on the 26th.
Also for anyone this helps: Merced is accepting transfer students for Spring 2021. Riverside and Santa Cruz are accepting for Winter 2021. Depends on the majors for these three schools. All other UCs aren’t accepting for Winter or Spring.
It seems anyone trying again for Berkeley (or UCLA) is going to have to wait another year. Best of luck to you all on whatever y’all decide. Just don’t be a slave to the Berkeley name. Recruiters (especially STEM industries) are starting to value experience/internships a lot more than the name of the college you went to. For some if you it might be better to graduate early and get an extra year of industry experience rather than graduating a year later but with a better school next to your degree.
DAMN I envy how good they must have felt at that clutch moment. I wonder what the statistics from 2018 was, assuming there is data of how many they admit per wave. So like first wave they admitted this # of students, and last few waves this many. Either way props to them, thats just epic.
lol didn’t rep in the online chat claim that a wave was going to go out this week? Just out of curiosity is anyone else worried about staying another year? I feel like next year will be hyper-competitive with top students opting to transfer in 1 year with AP credit+ 30 units, plus many from this admission round staying another year. Also, I think UCLA overenrolled which will hurt admission for next year.
That’s part of the reason I’m not waiting another year. I have a feeling admissions are going to be competitive next year. Especially UCLA, like you said. A ton of people got into UCLA this year it seems like. I saw people with 3.3 and 3.4 GPAs getting in off the waitlist.
I hate myself for applying to Berkeley over UCLA lol.
I think staying another year is taking on a lot of risk. There are so many factors you can’t account for, most important of which being – are you able to ensure that your updated application will be stronger.
College may feel like the end-all be-all right now, but it’s ultimately still just a stepping stone to your goals in life. Only exception I can think of is if there’s truly a specific program that’s only available at a certain school.
