UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Waitlist Thread

Its quite cruel during the pandemic

Same! I’m just now realizing how far into June we are. It’s going by super quick. It felt like yesterday was June 1st and I was anticipating decisions.

The longer this takes, the more convinced I am that UCLA is my destiny (as dramatic as that sounds).

So next week it is I guess

UCLA is an amazing school it was my number 1 option!

Don’t be surprised if no one from the forum gets In next week. Apparently COVID had no effect whatsoever on admissions and the last 2 years waitlist stats were pretty pathetic.

Let us be optimistic

We cant do anything but be positive right now~

I just worry a lot about ACA5 right now. UC board all agree to pass that bill which means Asians will suffer a lot for admission next year

@Quarentinetingzz

Hey! I just graduated from DVC last Spring. International student and I was also a part of the student government there. If there’s any questions or anything that I can help you with, please let me know!

@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS”

How do you know COVID had no impact on admissions/won’t cause them to pull more from the waitlist, due to concerns regarding melt and such?

Because the rep directly said that in live chat.

@pzl233p

Interesting, I think reps have been saying conflicting things in the live chats + the freshman waitlist AND appeals were extended, so I thought there has to be some predicted impact, or existing impact.

we cannot relate frosh admission with transfer admission. they under admit about 20% students during regular admission process. however, us transfers have nowhere else to go as we have already finished low div at CC

@collegeappacc

While they tend to be vague and conflicting with the due dates because they aren’t part of admissions, so they try to say like “perhaps next week or soon”, I don’t think they would lie about a flat fact like “coronavirus surprisingly had very little to no effect this year”. Especially because when they said it, the other representative simultaneously replied with “I’m not allowed to comment on those things” At least its a huge implication to me.

Also, the freshmen waitlist AND the transfer waitlist from past threads(like 2018), have all had people thinking it will be extended to like July 4 or July 5. While they can comment about extensions early in the waitlist period, near the end(like where we are now), they clearly said ALL DECISIONS will be done by June 30, meaning you probably get a rejection on the 1st/2nd. If it was uncertain before, all representatives or even the campus email will tell you that June 30 is the final date. No sugarcoating and this is a pattern that is seen from past threads as well.

@harryjackson1 the freshman waitlist is supposed to close on the June 1. They extended it by a month, and on the freshman CC thread someone called them and they said that students are dropping still to go to other schools. Some insider on the freshman thread had noted Berkeley didn’t over admit freshman due to COVID as decisions were finalized previously. Maybe that’s different for transfers?

Also, another rep said that the freshman decisions may extend into July. Many other reps have said that the mode of instruction could have an impact on the WL, due to admitted student behavior. If many students drop, they’ll definitely need to fill those seats. What they probably mean is that not many had dropped yet due to COVID. Understandable because they only released the method recently.

@collegeappacc

You make good points. Past threads are not a good indicator of what will happen this year since we have a pandemic going on and all and that might cause some students to defer or to stay in CC for another year.

However, I would rather get rejected on June 30th than in mid-July. It’s gonna suck waiting more weeks if there are only few waitlist spots available and the majority will get rejected anyways.

Also, didnt they explicitly say more freshman appeals and WLs will get in and that there would be a transfer wave next week?

But they also said a wave would come last weekend but nothing happened
