I am someone who is still waiting for UCLA’s decision. Just came here out of curiosity, was there even a single wave for you guys or nothing at all? I think I have heard only a handful of ppl have gotten off from Berkeley’s waitlist. Hoping for the best for you guys.
That does make sense. There’s also probably many more out of state students and international students who are enrolling in UCB as incoming freshmen, and will try to choose to either take a gap year/attend university in their home country. I do, however, know that multiple reps mentioned that the transfer waitlist will have one final wave. Reps either mentioned “one more wave next week”, or “final transfer wave” by the end of June. When asked abt transfer WL’s all reps seem to indicate it will be over in June, while freshmen waitlist, some reps have said July, or that they can’t say whether it’ll be released in June or extended again.
I do, however, want to mention that there was a point where students admitted off the freshman appeal/WL were being offered only spring admission. However, after the SIR deadline for that wave of admits, Berkeley opened up the “traditional” or fall start pathway, and some students who had not selected their pathway previously had the opportunity to do so before Berkeley closed it again later. So, they may have other fall start spaces. I agree that many OOS freshmen will take a gap year, and int’l it won’t be inclined to come, and so the mode of learning + situation may have a bigger impact on freshmen WL.
I don’t think the reps have been super negative about our chances, for either freshman or transfer. I do, hope that we can all get in.
At the end of the day, I just want to give myself hope since I’m really really not happy with my SIR to UCSC, and I still can’t get over the fact that the privates and OOS schools I got into and loved (Rice NYU USC Michigan and UDub) were all far too expensive. Berkeley is my last shot, and I don’t even know how I got waitlisted, but losing hope every day is pretty challenging, and idk what I’m gonna do if i don’t get in.
Sorry if I misinterpreted the situation.
I just really hope both freshman and transfers can get in, and the fact that UCB’s rep told someone students are still dropping to go to other schools, and the fact that they extended the WL AND appeals, and said they’d take more appeals for freshmen gave me a lot of hope.
That being said, many students don’t see online as worth it, so I’m sure many transfers and freshmen will get a chance, with many current students electing to take a gap year.
Berkeley will have to make a prediction, and may very well choose to overenroll; we don’t know.
Good luck!
frosh admin has a larger pool so they have bigger chances for sure
The positivity is nice ngl, good luck and hope you get in!
UCSC has a gorgeous campus and it’s a really cool town. Close to SV too so you got a good job market close by.
If worse comes to worse give CC a try though. You sound like a good student and you probably think it might be “beneath” you. That is how I felt coming out of HS but I gotta say attending CC was the best choice I made so far in my undergraduate career. I saved upwards of 30,000$. and got to explore to find a major I really liked before committing big money.
If you got waitlisted for Berkeley out of HS then you will have no problem getting in as a transfer student. I couldn’t even dream of Berkeley coming out of HS lol.
You really really deserve to go to Berkeley, and I hope you can have hope, and eventually get in. It’s just been a hellish ride for me, and especially with my family’s financial situation taking an opposite turn recently. Previously Rice was probably my second choice after Stanford, and I could have afforded Rice+UMichigan. I was just really excited to go to Michigan, and it kinda still doesn’t feel real how much changed. Ngl, I had sooo much hope for my rice finaid appeal, and I was devastated when it didn’t come through. I don’t think I fit at UCSC, nothing really against the school.
Thanks for the CC encouragement!
Though, I’m gonna keep hoping for Berkeley!
Hey i’m sorry if ppl here may seem negative(like me). The mood is a bit down compared to the freshmen waitlist because there is a history of poor admittance from the Berkeley waitlist since 2018, and 2019 especially since they removed NO ONE. While I believe the freshmen waitlist has been somewhat consistent over the years and even now, the waitlist admittance rate was like 50% in 2017 and has been cut significantly so, to like 28% in 2018 and 0/1% in 2019.
I think you can look at the general attitude at the start of the thread to the midway point and see how much depression has kicked in lmaoooo.
@harryjackson1 Yeah, I completely understand the feeling. Especially with waitlists, knowing that my app was looked at positively and that we are deserving of the opportunity but unable to go sucks. I think last year’s 0 is what’s dampening the mood. I completely understand the depression. At the end of the day, all of you guys deserve to go to Berkeley. That dream just might become a reality.
I really hope it does for us all. I want to think freshmen and transfers both have a good shot. Last year’s 0’s don’t mean much anymore
I feel like I’m gonna be the first person ever to apply twice, be waitlisted and rejected both times.
wish I’d just been rejected
No change so far it seems nothing or end of the month
I guess given the trend Tuesday is the day they prob release some students. so I guess we have to wait till that time.
Why you guess Tuesday~~~~
The following was concluded on the live chat today:
"Student1:
Okay, thank you! Will there still be acceptances for appeals or have they already been released?
Rep:
WL and Appeal will be the same day, June 30th.
Student2:
Wait, so will WL and appeal be released on the same day, whether admitted or rejected for both freshman and transfer?
Rep:
Yes.
"
I guess everyone’s finding out on the same day, not sure if this is good or bad.
Lol. June 30th is the day when the decision will come. After 1.5-month college starts
Its quite cruel to release aon the last day of June. I have bad feelings like last year
Its really dicky if the tiny wave is the first and last wave.
I mean last year noone got in at all so it’s not like they care
I konw. But we just cannot do anything to make a difference
So, today a rep said that all transfers will be notified by the end of July (freshman on June 30th). I’m just going to focus on the school I have committed to now instead of obsessing over this. R i p
Do you ask that this means everyone get rejected?
@givmethemail They said: “We will notify all students of final decisions (or in other words, when the class is closed). So at this point, there is still a chance”.
