I guess it could be before 30th as well. I got mine UCLA rejection during the weekend.
Im sorry
@givmethemail Lol. That was a long time ago.
Thats crazy. I thought all ppl should get rejection at the very end
Sorry guys felt a bit depressed so took some time off of internet as a whole.
I did not get the official email, but a friend helped me ask his brother who is part of admissions and they said that it does not matter what they tell you, at this point there is 0 chance they are accepting more people. This was on the 25th. Obviously I still had a little hope regardless but he said along the lines “At this point man all I can say is that I 100% suggest that you prepare for next admissions or pursue at another school, im sorry”
A representative I am in contact with that visits my college replied to me as well to a previous email I sent(they usually get back to me 1 week later) and apologized because they thought this year will be different due to the situations and all that, but it seems admissions this year compared to 2018 still got cut by 40% roughly. My understanding means a 40% decrease to say 25%.
A singular, smaller wave for example should be expected for the future as well, meaning if you do get on the waitlist, 95% of the time you are suggested highly, if not automatically, consider other options. Obviously he said there may be exceptions, but this would be the norm moving forward. Finally, he advised me that if I will have continued interest at the school, to really find Extracirriculars due to UCB falling off of SAT domestically(so cc ) and they really want a even more holistic pov.
Sorry for the long text. I expect to get the official email of rejection on the 30th like everyone else but currently i alreayd know.
Also somewhere else I saw people who mentioned from an overall standpoint, there are much more people applying to Berkeley, so the ratio of open seats will constantly decrease as 2020 was a huge year for applications. With a few changes in the future coming in 2021, expect the class of people applying to increase quite drastically again. This news was from another forum and I can not confirm it compared to the rest, but I take that this is telling you this is probably affecting the percentage statistics you will see.
However, you can choose to take this with a grain of salt.
@harryjackson1 That’s about what I figured, thanks for sharing. It doesn’t make sense for a wave to come on the absolute last day of the wait-list. I do gotta say though I expected a lot more clarity and transparency coming from a school like Berkeley. Berkeley handled this wait-list about as poorly as you can. Two absolute disaster years of the wait-list in a row now, only compounded by a lack of transparency on Berkeley’s end. This was flat out embarrassing compared to how schools like UCLA and Davis have handled their wait-list.
Good luck y’all. The majority of people end up being happy with their choice of school in the end. Berkeley is a great school and all but it’s only a stepping stone for your career. Don’t be a slave to the Berkeley name, a university’s prestige means a lot less than you think.
I was thinking about taking a gap year to focus on research and then just re-apply next year. I talked about it with my research head and he basically talked me out of it and said it’s not a smart idea. Being able to graduate one year earlier and attain a full year of experience would go a LOT further than graduating a year later but at a better school. He also made the point that for all I know I would just get rejected again next year effectively wasting a whole year with little to no gain.
For anyone thinking about taking a gap year in order to re-apply next year : Talk about it with a counselor or a professor or an academic advisor first.
Right now, everybody is going through this emotional trauma. Always stay positive!
If you don’t want me, I don’t want you! Bye Cal
@harryjackson1 Does this also apply to freshman or just transfers? It’s best to not have hope I guess
I have no idea on freshmen/appeals.
I was told accordingly based on the knowledge that I was on the transfer waitlist who took 5 technical(math/biopsych) courses this term and getting straight As despite the Coronavirus timeline. However my term ended late and when they told me they said they were not counting updates anymore.
@harryjackson1
so you didn’t officially get rejected which means there is still a chance. A low one of course but still a chance. It ain’t over till its over folks…the ride finally ends in 3 days.
If they are taking so much time, then few people should get off the waitlist.
I asked rep on the live chat directly if everyone will get rejected and they claimed some ppl would get off. Based on former info, I have little trust for this message
He explicitly said no more students will be getting off the WL overall or is it with regards to college/major? That’s really worrying, since AO’s explicitly said more transfers will be getting off the WL. Was there some sort of mini-wave last week? Weird, since AOs said therell be another wave…
I wouldn’t take AOs info too seriously. They contradict themselves every week it seems.
Why would a University wait until the last day to submit a wave of people off the waitlist? That just makes no sense in my mind. It gives no students time to plan and it gives the admissions office no time to fill in the rejected seats.
I’m sure one or two people might get off. I sincerely doubt it will be a noticeable amount hoever.
This year’s situation is unique, the university needs as much time as possible to predict how many students will drop and/or melt away due to online instruction. Furthermore (atleast when asked abt freshmen for sure, and even a couple times for transfers) AO’s have mentioned June 30th no longer applies. AO’s mentioned that the situation changes every day, and some state/federal actions could imply more spots for WLs or appeals.
They’ve almost all confirmed more appeals + WL’s will get in. Also, even if one or two people get off, that means there’s still some chance, which contradicts what the other poster with an insider said.
This last part applies to freshman only:
They extended the waitlist and appeals from May 30 to June 30. Still didnt take anyone in June. Doesnt make sense if they take no one in june. They may extend again.
I just can’t trust the AO’s on the live chat anymore. Last week an AO said that the waitlist would be extended past June 30. Literally about an hour later on that same live chat the AO then said that all decisions would come out on June 30.
Only 2 more days till we find out at least. No more waiting around.
@ShmopyShoj
Agreed – they do contradict, however, I have found that a couple of AO’s seem to give reliable info, and inform us when something changes. I think I know what you mean when you said the AO said it’d be extended past June 30, and later said June 30. I reread that conversation later, and it seems as though the AO said only FR WL will be extended past June 30, and also the part which most ppl interpreted as all decisions out by June 30, could have also been interpreted as all decisions out by course registration time.
They owe us a response this week at the least. I really really hope there’s another wave on the 30th for both freshmen + tranfer or that there’s atleast still a shot.
(BTW fwiw, chancellor christ said she’s worried abt summer melt, and AO’s indicated decisions are changing on the daily, and that’s whats causing the possible extension.)
I honestly don’t think all AO’s are in the loop on WLs. Just a few of them and the director are.
This is so stressful.
