UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Waitlist Thread

As someone who is preparing to leave this server and carry the tradition of being part of the past thread for next years waitlist; In terms of reps saying when a wave may come out, or if extensions will happen, please don’t expect that as a solid 100% fact. Throughout this entire month, there were 3 key points where reps said there will LIKELY be a wave coming this weekend or weekday, which never happened. If they say there is likely to be an extension in the first half of the month, expect that it will still be by the 30th. Due to their training, they are following guidelines that would be applicable 2017 and before. 2018 and beyond was not like that all, and the trend continuously shows that it will be different.

I am not saying to be pessimistic or negative, but rather, outside of the first wave, please mentally and more important, in your life prepare for other options seriously. I am someone who got accepted to UCSD/UCI/UCD, and I either foolishly or arrogantly thought that because of the corona and other information I recieved, my chances of getting in the waitlist at the start of the month was if not less, then equal to 50%. Obviously, I understand it is hard to let go of that hope and inner excitement, but if you are like me, try to just be more reasonable if you could.

I haven’t posted my full stats like everyone else so here I go.

-All prereq and IGETC completed

-Igetc courses were related to my major as cognitive science. Such as cs, anthropology, psychology, biology

-GPA 3.9, 3.947 considering spring. My poor grade that brought my GPA low was a C in a course that was taken a year ago, and I have pretty good personal/family reasons why. Explained through my essay and app.

-EC for past year/starting college. Tutor for English and Writing. Microbiology T.A, BioPsychology Helper/T.A. Working for 6 months. Family health issues caused me a huge chunk of time my first term and that was explained(related to C)

Have you decided where you will be attending, also did you get into UCLA, I didn’t get into UCLA with TAP and all prereqs done for Cog Sci I wonder what the stats will look like.

I know one person that got off the UCLA waitlist with a 3.5 and another with a 3.6. Both decent ECs but nothing special. One got rejected from SDSU of all places but still managed to get into UCLA off the waitlist lol.

Admissions is so funky year to year. There is definitely a random aspect to it at least somewhat. If you have great stats then there’s no reason to beat yourself up over it thinking you should’ve done more. That’s just the way the dice rolls.

I asked the live chat people, and of course for them no answer is a good answer, but it appears to me to be a 50-50 shot between having a wave of acceptances and rejections tomorrow or them going into July. The person I spoke with said the admission staff would know tomorrow in their morning meeting whether or not they are sending out letters that day, we’re going to extend the decisions into early July

pretty sure the rep said there’d be both acceptances and rejections. Also seems like there was (atleast one) transfer appeal admit for Fall 2020 on the 22nd.

I’m pretty sure it’s gonna get extended into July tbh just based on the vibe + the fact that they have a staff meeting 2-4 pm tmrw.

I’m happy for them but man someone getting in off the appeals before any noticeable amount of waitlist students get in really rubs me the wrong way. What’s the whole point of a waitlist at that point?

Hopefully that means that there is still a wave of admits coming.

If not a single person reports getting in tomorrow then giving students hope at literally the last possible moment is actually spiteful. You have people who has resolved themselves after a roller coaster of feelings since April and at the final second you dangle it in front of them.

It seems ucla took as many students as they could in the span of a fixed, reasonable amount of time. Then, as soon as they knew they were filled they did an early rejection. I get comparing the two has gotten old, but UCLA despite reports showing it actually getting more applications than UCB, they have done this so much better.

@harvardptonwlboi It’s interesting that someone got off the appeal for transfer. I have asked various reps countless times and each of them have confidently said they have not released any acceptances for transfer appeal. Must be some misunderstanding somewhere. Not sure. :neutral:

@beans456 I’m not 100% on the specifics, but the most common variant of that question was Have transfer appeal acceptnaces been released OR (More commonly) Have ALL transfer appeal acceptances been released.

It’s a weird situation. The deadline for transfers to request a deferral is tmrw. For freshmen who requested a deferral, the University has asked them if they really want to defer or if they would like to maintain a space in c/o 24. That’s due July 6th according to some friends.

I think it’s getting extended tomorrow to be honest, and that the decisions will fully release in around a week.
