UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Waitlist Thread

Hey all. I’m an appealer and they literally rejected me and a few others without even reading our appeals. I just wanted to let you know that it does not seem like Berkeley has enough space. If they have extended the waitlist date to mid-July there’s maybe still a chance but probably a small one? Idk.
I wish you all the best of luck :slight_smile:

@beans456

They told you they did not read your appeals?? Wow, that’s unexpected

@collegeappacc

Lol, they did not even try to hide it. In the rejection, they did not mention that my appeal/application was reviewed. Every appeal rejection letter I know of has some form of “After careful re-review” or something. The funny thing is, I wrote the appeal because my application was automatically rejected without being reviewed since I missed submitting the the Breadth/GE form. So Berkeley basically rejected me twice, both times without ever glancing at my application. I had already taken some honors physics courses there in which I had done better than their own students. I thought I really belonged there, I’m hurt.

Hopefully you waitlisters have some good news.

Based on my count, 7 people received this special letter from Berkeley which also includes me.

If you received it but did not report please let report it. I just wanted to get an estimate.

@1290student what special letter?

@beans456

That’s rough. Almost no one makes it off the appeals list but in your case it seemed like it came down to something very trivial (missing form). On the bright side UCSB is an amazing school for Physics. You can even try to get into UCSB’s CCS Physics program and that undergrad program is rated as one of the best physics programs in the world, up there with MIT/CIT/Stanford. If you are serious about going to grad school for Physics definitely try joining CCS or at least taking CCS classes.

I’m not sure what to make of this as someone on the wait-list. Wait-listers have much higher priority than people on the appeals list, so on one hand it makes sense that they rejected most of the appeals people before they rejected anyone on the wait-list. On the other hand, if people on the appeals list are getting automatically rejected then I am assuming there are too many people left remaining on the wait-list to even start seriously looking at appeals.

@1290student

Is this the special letter? This is what I got:

We appreciate your patience as we determine the available space for our incoming class. While we are still unable to offer you admission to UC Berkeley at this time, we want you to know that we’re still considering students from the wait list through mid-July. We encourage you to hold on to your space at another institution in case we cannot follow up with an offer. We want to make sure you have a place you can call home this Fall. We apologize for the delay and we’ll be in touch with a final decision soon.

My friend and I got too, and another friend just got a rejection

@jennyDDD

Was your rejected friend on the appeals list or waitlist?

Is that letter special? I think everyone on the waitlist got it.

@ShmopyShoj She was on the WL.

@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS” She got an email just said “unable to offer your admission” without mention the mid-July.

So based on the chat, 9-10 people got that mid-july letter. I am pretty sure that not all the students in the waitlist got that letter.

I also got the email

I did too.

@beans456 wait what?? You took a physics class(the most important course for your major) at UCB and still rejected even after doing well and literally PROVING that you were on par and very well on pace with the rest of the students there? I am not sure what else they are looking for. If they want qualified students clearly you were one of them(HONORS?!) so in the end they suffer from missing out on you, you won’t miss them because you clearly have the capabilities to succeed. Good luck for the rest of your education bro I know you will kick ass and I wish you luck on everything else.

I’m pretty confident that the majority of the waitlist got that letter, a friend of mine not on the forum got it as well.

I did the same thing but here I am… waitlist lol

Appeals is virtually a 0% chance every year regardless and most schools. Last year nobody got taken off the waitlist and I was on it, they didn’t even read letters or consider anybody cause there was 0 space.

Also I got the mid july email. thought it was sent to everyone
