They probably still try to figure out ICE so might be another extension (grieved)
holy moses, they seriously need to decide asap. -_-
Since the 15th is next Wednesday, I guess admissions should start on Tuesday? Wednesday will either be some acceptances plus an extension for the rest, or we will get rejected.
I get ICE and the recent student cases has sprung up another box of roadblocks but like just come on man. If you want to delay it for another 2 weeks then mind as well accept the 1,000 and odd people left cause everybody knows that the effects of coronavirus will be prevalent until at least next year. At this rate they will keep having to do a new recount on openings since every week has marked some major activity. At least, this is assuming that they WANT students to fill for deferred spots and mend the financial losses this year.
I think because of a possible current outbreak at Berkeley they may reevaluate having any classes in person and may accept more people off waitlist idk. Maybe unrealistic. They would have no reason not to in that case. The idea to have in-person classes is unrealistic when we are setting record days every day in the last 3 consecutive days when we were told during summer the virus may not prosper as much.
IS students will supposedly receive a guideline on Monday on what will be happening due to ICE. Wonder what it will say. I’m sure someone on reddit will post it.
@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS”
I completely agree with you lol
How r u guys? Actually I am quite nervous about nxt week especially the ICE issue and a big change of my family come together
I want to get my decision this week
I bet it’s gonna be on Friday, July 17th. I guess they just like Fridays - first decision came out on Friday, April 17th as well.
Or August 14th lol, considering how they keep delaying it
They said mid-July. That should be before the 15th.
I am dying… I havent heard anyone got off list or get accepted with same major from my cc. I have a frd who applied same major with 4.0 as well. He is a resident but got rejected directly… He is also a first generation student. I just keep losing my hope as an IS. My Lord pls save me…
This really shocked me for a long time coz I thought he would 1000% sure to be accepted
Berkeley rejects a good amount of near 4.0 students. They have one of the more holistic approaches out of the UCs. You need some great grades to be considered but they also look beyond just GPA.
A student from my CC got rejected with a 4.0. He was furious talking about how they wronged him and he worked so hard and all that. I asked him what ECs he put on his application. The most notable thing he listed was like 20 volunteer hours he did back in HS.
Reps on the live chat said this about decision date today:
Q:So no decisions will be released prior to the 15th?
A: Not that we know of at this moment.
Q:Does Mid-July mean before the 15th?
A: Anytime on or after the 15th
Q: Any idea when more information regarding the timing of the next wave and any possible extensions of the waitlist will be?
A: Just around mid-July. So most likely on or after July 15th.
They have also said that everything is uncertain and they are still gauging availability.
I think they have made most decisions but they just cant say it officially at present
What do you mean? That admissions are practically done by now?
I think I agree with you. I can see like 50 students getting off at the absolute most.
Like what they replied on June 30: an email will communicate wl all students, they should have agreements that dont say something offically when they reply
Its just crazy that all the worst come together wl ICE cant stay, without acceptance but also cant get a ticket like “get out here and go back to your home”. so ridiculous and sad
@ShmopyShoj I don’t think the number will be that few. I think Berkeley is honestly just figuring out what to do with the whole situation. They’re reviewing gap requests and stuff rn. I’m pretty sure they have to cover for the significant number of students requesting a gap as well.
They’re also probably planning for fully remote. The dorms also won’t be at full capacity. They are likely just evaluating how much space they have left in their classes, and trying to estimate how many students will gap spring on the 99% chance it is remote learning.
