If the whole next academic yr goes online, the class capacitiy should be evaluated again. I mean there should be more spaces available than usual
@givmethemail I suspect that’s whats happening rn
Just out of curiosity, why is everybody assuming that more people would defer this year because of the online instruction? Personally, I’d be happy to take online classes. Just image how much you’ll be saving on housing, board and transportation. For in-state students, financial aid isn’t going to change except for the housing portion.
No glitch so I guess it all goes down on Wednesday.
@chrispuppy Well everyone sees it differently. I’m sure a lot of students will see this as a huge financial blessing and be cost effective, but there is also many people(students and parents alike) who view college to be worth due to the services they offer and the chance to network. Especially for junior transfers who normally have only 2 years left to graduate, we have already sacrificed the “college experience” and the whole dorming life. Now that is a very bias’d or limited view and if I was a current student there, personally I wouldn’t care for the format and would stay in either way.
Each of us values something from college, and I’m sure some international folks wouldn’t be so keen to pay $45k a year just to attend one of the best schools in the world on Zoom. Perhaps some students are in the financial position where they can comfortably leave for a year, or use this as a signal to be invested in their own work while taking a break from school.
If a handful of people defers for reason A and another handful due to reason B, it is very reasonable to believe that there will at least be SOME increase in spots this year.
ppl pay for the college experience and the connections, so if you cant do that it sucks esp for OOS fees. internationals have rlly terrible time zone issues. Online classes are terribly curved etc. less motivation
Yes, I totally agree wl you. I had many conversations wl my frds from UC, and Im pretty sure the first-two-years experience in CC is better than be in a university for IS students. We could save a ton of money and reach out more ppl rather than being limited in home country groups. Considering the housing and whatever, UC zoom is better off for in state students but worse off for OOS especially for IS who have few supports from family and community
Finally, tomorrow is the day when it all begins
I just don’t get it why everyone so sure about it to be this Wednesday? Mid July is not just the 15th, and they never specified the exact date. I think you can call mid July any date up to the 21st, so it can easily be this Friday, or even next Monday.
Plus there’s today’s news about raising COVID cases and another shut down order for public spaces in California. So I will not be surprised if they’ll decide to take their time to adjust schedule and rethink how many people they’ll admit. I feel like it may even be postponed again till the end of the month.
Final decision will be released on July 15, 2021 haha
Well they just scrapped all the F1 student stuff. Rule on foreign students rescinded and it will be like nothing has happened.
From Live Chat today
Q: "so transfer waitlist decisions will be in released in the end of this month?
A: “No the target date for transfer is the end of the month for waitlists” “if you’re on the waitlist you may be released anytime this month”
Q: It’s confusing because previously AO’s have indicated that the release would be in waves, with a wave this week, while other sessions have provided contradictory" information
A: “waves” is a way you could describe how we release decisions. But the fact of the matter is we could release groups of students or individual students on other days."
Q: “Do you know around what times will decisions be released tomorrow?”
A: “To be clear although we said mid-July we would be releasing decisions we aren’t confirmed that the release will be tomorrow for sure.”
Q: “Hello! Since the ICE rule for international students has been rescinded, could it mean that more international students could be considered from the waitlist?”
A: “that circumstance wasn’t being factored into who we chose off the waitlist.”
Q: “This is a kind of nit-picky question, but what date is considered “Mid-July”. It would be nice to know a concrete date.” "The message that will come “Mid-July” is that acceptances/rejections or just another commutation email saying that the decision may be extended again. "
A: "The message that will come “Mid-July” is that acceptances/rejections or just another commutation email saying that the decision may be extended again. "
Note a freshmen waitlist question was asked backed to back with the First Q/A and it was this
Q: “Will freshmen also only be reviewed by the end of the month?”
A: “No we plan to release freshmen waitlists likely tomorrow. if not sometime this week”
Q: “Hi, this is pure speculation but I understand that the UCLA waitlist will be considered until August. Is that going to be a similar case for Berkeley? It seems which everything going on, there is a strong incentive to keep the waitlist period extended until the end of the month”
A: “There are a lot of possibilities of course so I wouldn’t rule that out.”
Q: “Ok thanks! My last question would be that IF someone were to be accepted close to August, will there be a STRONG chance they will be accepted for a Spring start?”
A: “we do not know. Again, we really hop to release in mid July and every indicator we have received seems to indicate that.”
Q: “Wait, so transfers are definitely extended from the mid-july timeframe right, because that was previously mentioned in the chat”
A: “we’ve been told for transfer it’ll be end of the month at least for now.”
Apparently Freshmen are supposed to get their decision soon while transfers is uncertain.
Is anyone else enrolled in their respective backup university’s summer transfer bridge program?
I’m currently enrolled in a few courses for CS at UCSC for their Summer Edge program (starts July 27th) and am curious as to how that will work out if I’m accepted off the waitlist in August.
UC units are transferable
Has anyone heard anything?
Nothing yet
PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HEAR SOMETHING
Do you guys think some or any of us will get accepted? I don’t think they would have left it to the last day to accept some of us
they are sure there are SOME acceptances but cant tell the size and decision hopefully all made this week. I can feel the increase of my blood pressure and anxiety
