@hsebastianm while they still haven’t sent out the decisions and it does seem they are still leaving the waitlist up in case for room for errors, they actually have released the genuine data of their acceptances, class size, and how they feel about their enrollment overall. Enrollment started on the 15/16, and if you read my previous post a few days back, they reported that they were “pleased” with the fact that not many transfer students have actually deferred, about the same as previous years. That is not a good sign if you were hoping that there would be unusually more vacant spots due to the pandemic.
There still could be more people deferring after picking their classes, but if the data holds for all the time(May June early July) to last Wednesday, it doesn’t seem too hopeful. There is still a chance, but it would be less than a handful at this point. At this time, I reason that if they do accept a wave amount of students, then it is because they need to bandage their budget loss this year, not because of a lack of students.
Then out of state have the highest chances, and I think international students as well. You may think that international students don’t want to pay for online classes, but you are wrong. Many students from other countries are paying for the school‘s name in the first place, and not the experience. In the end - it’s not gonna be written in your diploma that you got it online during COVID.
We are treated like vampire cattle, strung along for the amusement and financial insurance/protection of the admissions office. They need to rip the BandAid off! Either admit some now and risk having over-admitted {even though we will likely be online for Fall and Spring now and there isn’t a physical seat requirement for online classes so over-enrollment doesn’t actually mean anything}, or just end the waitlist and risk having some open seats and stomach the financial loss.
At this point, with the complete lack of communication on their part, the three months of waiting, and the expectation that we need to hurry up and wait because they are a world renowned math school and yet can’t count how many seats they have, i just feel used. If i get admitted no amount of marketing on their end will make me feel like I wasn’t second best to all those that got in on April 17. At this point, it’s disrespectful and and rude to keep treating us this way as we enter “late July.”
@NickAppliedMath I agree with you, you should definitely complain. I mean they are just waiting til the last minute and say “sorry your not accepted” so like waiting for 3 months for nothing?! Cmon. They need to do better than that
@givmethemail I’m sure everyone is upset at the moment rn. I mean waiting for so long and receiving the rejection letter seems very rude. I wish they would send the emails more sooner. UCLA’s waitlist became so empty…I wish they would send it earlier too.
Release admissions today please we can’t take it anymore this is so annoying. Saying the decision would come out end of June, then mid-July, and now its late July and we still haven’t heard back. This is ridiculous!
“TO all: at this time we will not be answering any further questions regarding the waitlist. We truly appreciate your patience, here is the response we have share with you all thus far: Thank you all for your questions regarding the waitlist, yes, we understand that this is a frustrating situation and we hope that you have already made alternative plans. We’re working to get you a final answer as soon as possible.”
wow. This is very disappointing. That is why my sister said no to berkeley. She wanted another student to take her spot because she knows that this school is hard to get into.
I wrote a few days ago that since covid cases are rising in contra costa and alameda, and a new shut down order for public spaces was assigned - UCB will take time again to rethink schedule. So they actually announced today that they did it, and now Fall will be completely online. (Check reddit r/berkeley today’s threads)
I think they are very close to be done with their “predictions”, and we’ll hear from the soon. Now they’ll start taking us off the waitlist to fill occurred spaces from international students (sorry, IS guys)
@mimininja yeah it seems they were waiting for the fallout for full online courses before closing the wl. Also interesting how the live chat was changed to be only 2 hours today and that is it for this week.
Friend tells me a lot of people don’t know you could still defer, and had to jump a few hoops to find it. Definitely not intentionally designed to be accessible. Hope students are informed that they can take a gap semester/year still.
The representative on the live chat right now just said their decisions will be released by the end of this month hopefully its just 10 more days of waiting?
