UC Berkeley Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeal Discussion

That’s simply not possible

Maybe they over admitted?

Well if you look at the historical trends, the earliest waitlist closing dates for freshmen were around July. I don’t see any signs that make 2024 a different year than the previous years. Moreover, my counselor got back from UCB that they might be going to the waitlist up until the end of July. Not to mention the fact that not all the waitlist admits on May 22 will commit to UCB. There must be some spots available

May 22 mainly for international and OOS? That is perhaps a different pool from IS

There wasn’t a lot, or maybe none, of IS waitlist admits so far, which is not typical. Chances are there might be some movements near the end of this week (pretty high chance on Wednesday). Prob for IS(just guessing) and some other OOS and international offers.

Anyways, waitlist closing at 6 tomorrow is just not gonna happen

Hopefully we all get in guys

Did you hear directly from UCB admission office that they would close the waitlist tomorrow 6pm?

Nah it’s just a guess

Your analysis makes sense.

Are you saying all those still on waitlisted should get in after all?

Our college advisor confirmed that she saw an online letter UCB sent out that they aren’t going to accept too many from the waitlist. UCB is monitoring “melt” over the next months closely.

At this point, I’m not going to get stressed over this anymore. If my son gets in, great. If not, we move on.

But the admissions office is closed on Wednesday?

Where did you see that?

We have a game of telephone going on here - this is the original post that started it all. You have to go back to 3 days ago to see the original posts. The tiktok video is a reputable private college counselor

it’s on their website. also I went to visit the admissions office in person once and it was on a Wednesday and it was closed and receptionist says admissions office is closed on Wednesday.

I just called the admissions office. The person said the counselor’s letter was real and that the only reason they still have the waitlist open is because they’re waiting to see if all the students who said yes do end up verifying their attendance and that he had no information about who has gotten off the waitlist so far.

Also, I asked him if he knew if he knew when the waitlist was going to closed, and he said that right now apparently it’s “closed” right now but not permanently because they met their enrollment targets, but ig they’re monitoring melt and will send an email when it officially closes later. i doubt there’s much chance for anyone to get off now

I just called Berkeley. Waitlist activity is slated to go on through August, and she expressly said that the email sent out to the college consultant mentioned earlier is false. School counselors have not received such correspondence, and it is inconceivable that only private counselors did.

So…I suggest we all stop worrying, make our peace with where we are going, and console ourselves with the knowledge that transfer admissions rates are far higher.

As mentioned earlier, it is also unprecedented that they would close the waitlist so early with such sparse in-state admissions offers.
