Hi @brightlydull ! I’m currently looking to choose between UCLA and Cal for Computer Science; I was wondering what made you choose UCLA? Thanks!
Has anyone tried completing the financial aid tasks on calcentral? I did so but they still say incomplete
@choukevin Don’t listen to @aymc1104 about Tacos Sinaloa, they are the best. Signed, a Texan who knows tacos.
Did anyone get accepted as a Spring Applicant ??? If so why? Lol
In-state, local
Major: Global Studies
GPA: 3.6
Major GPA: 3.75
TAP: No
ECs: Phi Theta Kappa, college athlete, Economics tutor, started my own business, invested in businesses
Essays: 9/10, I started them last July and worked on them every week until November, talked about family divorce, depression, I had a 1.8 GPA in high school, and I talked about how sports led me to do better in college. Cal rep said they were good
Rejected.
Accepted: UC Davis, UCSD, UCSB, CSULB, UW
Rejected: SDSU, UCLA, UCB
For anyone else maybe who had this problem, on my UC Berkeley app page, a link popped up a month ago saying I have a required form from General Education/Breadth - College of Letters & Science. I had tried to fill it out then, but it didn’t allow me to. I called Cal a few weeks ago, and they stated that if I updated by general UC app that shouldn’t be an issue, but it’s still been there… Is this why I got rejected?
If anyone has any idea on this plz let me know!! I think I’m going to protest bc idk if this affected their decision or not
Thanks!!
@ashxio I got rejected lol but my friend got in last year, for Universities, it’s easier to bring people in during the Spring as there are people graduating in the Fall, people transfer out, etc. They’re basically stating there’s not enough room for you in the Fall but they still value you and they want you to go to the school. It’s not really bad or good if you get what im saying.
@smrider29 lol I’ll have to check it out
@ashxio I also got in as a spring admit. I think it’s just due to having too many students enrolled at a certain time so they accept some students to start in spring 2019 after their fall 2018 students graduate/leave spots open for housing, classes etc.
@thecolorblue yay!!! the psa seems pretty cool. Are you from the bay or elsewhere?
@cognitives Oh I see! And Congrats!! Do you still plan to enroll for spring ?
FUTURE APPLICANTS WHO LOOK AT THIS THREAD:
DO NOT LOOK AT THE CONSPIRACY THEORIES! THEY ARE NOT ACCURATE. I was unable to make an account on CalNet and I didn’t show up on the student directory and NONE of the other “loopholes” showed up on my portal but I still got in. If CalNet doesn’t open for you or whatever, don’t stress, you still might be accepted!
My stats:
Accepted
GPA: 3.95
Major: Sociology
TAP: I know I was TAP’d with UCLA but I didn’t send in the forms for Berkeley so I don’t think I got my certification lol
Major prep: I did all the major prep for UCLA, if Berkeley’s was different, I may not have finished it
ECs: Officer of 2 different clubs on campus, part time barista, volunteer tutor to native Spanish speaking elementary school students, community play assistant director (filled in all the additional spaces with stuff from high school)
Remember guys, if you were not admitted, DO NOT STRESS. This process is so random, you can still accomplish everything you want and more in life. A group of adults looking at an online application you submitted to them do not determine your value. Remember to trust that the universe has your back and is leading you down a much better path than you would have gone down at Cal. If you have faith in yourself, you are going to do amazing things in life.
God bless! Xx
Accepted!

Waitlisted: UVA, UNC-Chapel Hill
Rejected: None yet
Pending: Cornell, Northeastern, GW
@ashxio You too! And I’m not sure, I am deciding between spring admit to Berkeley for Computer Science or Fall 2018 admit for UCLA as Computer Science and Linguistics! Slightly leaning towards Cal though, just because of how well regarded the CS program is there and it’s closer to me (I’m in Sacramento)!
Hello!
I’ve been lurking on this thread for a few weeks now.
I was accepted, but I can’t find the SIR on CalCentral. Anyone else having this issue?
Hey everyone, this is my first post. I’ve been viewing this thread for the past 5 months or so. I am sharing my stats for future applicants who also have had a bad college start like me. There’s still hope!
Accepted!
Pasadena City College & Rio Hondo College
Phil: 3.45
IGETC completed this past winter.
Insight questions: discussed how my work experience helped me return to school and do well.
I had 2 academic renewals (one at each cc I attended)
8 W’s on my transcript
No honors
EC: volunteered at legal aid clinic
Work experience: brokerage associate for WF and self employed.
Accepted: UCSB, UCI, CSULB, UCB
Waitlisted: UCLA
Denied: Cal Poly Pomona (failure to send in proof of academic renewal)
I’m from Los Angeles. If you’re from LA, feel free to message me, it would be nice to make some acquaintances prior to the fall!
Go Bears!
To anyone looking at this in the future, I think my rejection is a reminder of how ECs ARE in fact, important to Berkeley, over all the other UCs
I had a 4.0 overall applying to Sociology, with all my prereqs done last semester, and IGETC to be completed this semester. Academically, I thought I was just fine, and I was surprised I was rejected. I initially thought it may have been because I had gotten into UCLA or cuz I switched my major after turning in the app and talked about a different major on my essays, but on reflection I think it’s mainly because of my lack of ECs. Looking on this thread, everyone who got accepted had stellar ECs. The other UCs didn’t seem to mind my lack of ECs, as I got into every other UC I applied to. But to provide more context, I have never joined a single club, never volunteered since HS, and the only valid EC on my app was probably the one job I’ve had for a couple years now, working as a manager at a pharmacy. I also don’t think I showed enough interest in my major, as I think the adcoms could clearly tell that I only picked it because I had the reqs done for it. Oh well, again, congrats to all the future golden bears. But I hope that I can provide a lesson to future applicants who want to get into Berkeley over every other UC. They DO, it seems, care about ECs for transfers. More than the other UCs at least. Volunteer and at least join a club. Also Try to show interest in your major if it doesn’t have a lot of reqs, like Sociology.
Accepted!
Major: Economics
GPA: 4.0

-CCC
-Poli Sci
-IGETC and AA-T complete this spring

-Letters of rec: both from people who know me really well, I’d say they were probs good
-no honors, college didn’t offer it
-I had four addresses at one point, as well at the SIR deposit, and student group stuff
Accepted: UCSC, UCSB, Chapman, UCSD, UCLA, UCB
WoooooOOOO! Congrats all!
Signed up just for this thread! Congrats to everyone who got in! And for those who didn’t, you are worthy and I’m sure you will thrive wherever you end up going!
Accepted!!
In-state, Berkeley City College (saw some other BCC folks here, hmu if you wanna connect!)
Major: Media Studies
GPA: 4.0 at CC, 3.22 cumulative (reverse transfer from 4-year to CC)
IGETC: One course in progress
Major prerequisites: Finishing like half of them this semester lmao
ECs: model un, tutoring, tons of volunteering, healthcare advocacy, political campaign work, several leadership roles, major- and career-related stuff, selective overseas scholarship program.
Essays: 9/10 - I’m a good writer, chose creative topics, and have a compelling life story. I honestly think my essays made the difference for me since my transcript is a hot mess and my ECs are barely above-average
Accepted: SDSU, SJSU, Cal Poly SLO, UCSB, UCD, UCI, UCLA
Waitlisted: Cal Poly Pomona
Denied: UCSD
Cal has been my dream for years and I never knew whether I’d be able to achieve it. I’m a relatively young nontraditional student and have felt like a failure for a lot of my college career, esp seeing people from high school graduate from Cal, UCLA, Ivies, etc and get fancy jobs, meanwhile not wanting to tell anyone what I’m doing with my life. But I’ve met some amazing people along the way and am now glad to be part of a great community of transfers <3
@ucitag2018
Man, congrats and good luck on the wait list! I have similar stats, but got Rejected…
College: De Anza + Laney College + Canada College
Major: L&S Computer Science
GPA: 3.68
EC’s: home made video game + work as a software engineer experience at top companies + lots of mess with my past education in another country
PreReqs: Everything I could take at my CC (no 61C/70)
IGETC: Missed Physical and Biological Sciences area by the end of spring
A+ in CS61A at Cal last summer
I wonder if the missed IGETC played key role in the rejection.
