UC Berkeley Transfer Thread 2018

Does anyone know why when I go on the housing application for Berkeley the only option for the term that shows up is Summer 2018?

My SIR is already processed btw

@choukevin I just read that fall will be available to register for May 1st

Is anybody else having trouble making Calnet ID? I SIR’d over 24 hours ago and I am still getting the error “Forbidden: You are not allowed to view this page.”

@GoldenState1 Kk, will look to register for classes tomorrow then

hello guys, I have a question: Would it be difficult to get an A in computer science classes like CS61ABC? I am so frightened right now because I heard some people saying that a lot students getting Cs and Ds.

I already enrolled for summer, taking cs61a and eth std 21ac, I hope i can survive

So I put in my SIR, and I didn’t get notified or prompted to pay the $250 admission deposit fee, does this mean I need to seek it out or that it got waived? has anyone had a similar experience? (I cant find anything about this fee being waived on my financial aid)

@Forshenzo yeah it did that to me too, I just waited a day and came back and it let me

@choukevin You’re not going to be registering tomorrow… you have to get holds lifted by your advisor and you will probably enroll in late July.

@helloapple average grades are Bs.

@aprilkepner Did you read the text at the bottom of the box (below all the radio buttons)? Mine said I did not need to pay the fee

@smrider29 yeah I got that cleared up thanks

Hey guys I just SIRed to Berkeley!!! Am I able to sign up for Golden Bear Orientation yet? Because I can’t find it on CalCentral.

Also do you guys know how hard it is to declare Political Economy?

Does anyone know specific activities on the Golden Bear Reception this Saturday? Is it worth it to go since I’m driving up from SoCal and I know there’s local New Students Reception available? Not sure if they’re the same though. And is housing tour available?

I got accepted for chemical engineering, before I decided on this major I took some philosophy courses at a different cc than the one i am attending right now. When i submitted the application I put that I got a C+ and a B+ in 2 philosophy classes because I did not have the transcripts, but after I submitting the application and receiving the transcripts, I saw that I got a B and a C. I found out this school does not even grade with the + or -. Will my admission be revoked because of this? I am an engineering major and the grades are for philosophy.

@Rock53, congratulations. Did you have all your pre-reqs? And what did you do for GE? Is that your overall GPA? Any outstanding ECs? (Asking for my son who will be applying in the future.)

The main activities at Transfer Day are a Transfer Resource Fair starting at 12:30pm (basically you walk around to all the tables and talk to whoever you want) and a Welcome Reception at 1pm. There will be a lot more programs and groups represented at the on-campus reception than at the at events in SoCal, but all the major programs will be at the SoCal events too (College Advisers, Financial Aid, etc.)

@robot873 . Congrats on your acceptance. I imagine everything will be fine with your issue, but hope you hear from others to reassure you. Can you share your stats, etc. for my son who is at CCC now, and working toward transfer with a major in ChemEng? Also, what did you do for GenEd? Thanks.

@Emmanuel7 Expierence Berkeley Transfer by Stiles Hall is a great program that you should join (if you qualify). On my PIQs I wrote about how I took intro to data science classes on EdX to prepare myself for the stats major.

FIY, if you are trying to into data science, the major was very recently approved so you may want to look into that option as well.

@iLikeIceCream I’m a total lurker, applying in Fall '18, this is my first post here. CNR is my goal so I would love to hear what you decide!

May I ask what major you applied to at the other UC’s?

Also, did you take econ? It isn’t required for my degree but one section of the SE overview sheet says “it is highly recommended that even students with IGETC certification complete articulated courses in microeconomics, statistics or calculus” and another changes that “or” to an “and” so I am trying to decide whether to take micro-econ just to be safe. I have completed stats. That said, I took 3 years of econ in my (foreign) high school and hated it so I am also sort of trying to avoid it
