UC Berkeley Transfer Thread 2018

@MikePe23 hey, apologies for the late response!

So unfortunately I don’t know much about the university village! My advice to you would be to post on last year’s transfer fb page- UC Berkeley Transfer Class of 2019 (Official)- and ask if any transfer with partners have experiences living in the university village.

Given that you’re an EECS major and will be living in Soda, I also recommend that you look for off campus housing options through the housing pages I recommended in my post! Northside is more residential, so there are homeowners looking to sublet spacious and reasonably priced single rooms to couples. You can also look for studios to share with your girlfriend.

That’s all the advice I can offer for your situation, hope this was helpful!

Hi guys! I’ve been lurking for awhile but I got into berkely and am super excited. Is there a Facebook transfer page at all? I have yet to start with my accepting process but am going go look into today! Congrats to everyone else who got in!

Does anyone know when we can start registering for classes? Do we have to finish all of the tasks on our CalCentral before we are able to register?

@choukevin You can register for summer right now, for fall I think it said july something.

I tried to do my SLR but it didn’t let me finish, it only let me submit Introductory Questions(part 1). The button to the other sections aren’t clickable, is anybody else facing the same issue?

@jjonah15 Do you know where it says this? I can’t find it anywhere lol. I’m just worried about the spots in the classes I want to take getting taken up, because I think some freshman students started to register for classes today

@choukevin Go onto calcentral then go to my academics and on the right it says class enrollment, under their look at .4 Class Enrollment and it says under enrollment period

Once SIR is processed, do things change on cal central, for instance more tasks and new stuff? Like financial aid updates or other changes… I paid it and it went through, receipt etc. but says you need to pay your SIR looks like it hasn’t processed even though payment shows complete… seems like didn’t recognize and wants me to pay it again? Did this happen to anyone else?

Look at your Conpleted Tasks. There should be a task that says you have accepted your Intent to register. That would mean that they’ve accepted your payment and you are in.

ahhh really late to the thread but accepted !!!

Hi! @rzwng4
Congrats on all of your acceptances, those are some excellent schools! UCLA and Berkeley also accepted me under pre-political science, and I was wondering if there were any specific reasons why you made the decision to go with Cal over UCLA? Thanks!

@rainingliquid27 … I know this may not be the answer you want… but when deciding between the two… you KNOW the answer when you walk on each campus… Have you visited each campus? I know that is not an option for everyone, but it really helps you just “know” which choice is right for you. Where do you see yourself, which campus feels “right” to you when you step foot on it.

Hi @rainingliquid27! I was actually pretty set on UCLA before I got my Cal decision but the second I got into Cal I just knew I had to go there. The deciding factors for me that are a little personal are that all of my best friends got into Cal out of high school, so me joining them was a full-circle moment. I also feel like I would REGRET not going to Cal more than I would with UCLA. Also, I plan on working in the Bay Area after college and don’t really like the LA area. However, UCLA is an awesome school, the campus is awesome, and I feel like transfer students have an easier adjustment (although that’s not to say that Cal students don’t assimilate well to the campus – I just feel like UCLA is more “transfer friendly” but, of course, it’s all what you make of it).

I do think that I liked the courses offered more at Cal than I did at UCLA, so I’d recommend sifting through the course requirements/options to see what you’d enjoy taking more. Also the flexibility of being able to change your major at Cal is a bonus, which is what I plan on doing. They’re both really good schools though so you can’t go wrong!

@aymc1104 Thanks so much! Can’t wait to start hanging out around campus:)

@rzwng4 @philosophyCAL Thank you guys so much for the responses! You both made some excellent points, and I think I will finalize my decision by just visiting each campus and seeing which one I “click” with better. Thanks so much!

@RainbowBritey Hi! I actually SIR’d to Berkeley yesterday!! I’ll list out the majors I applied to at diff UC’s
UCB- Society and Environment
UCLA-Geography
UCSD- International Studies- Poli Sci
UCD- International Relations
UCI (TAG)- Global Cultures

I did take econ. I took both Macro and Micro, as well as stats at my community college. I also had a calculus ap score from high school. I really believe that having all of these “recommended” courses would help any application significantly, so I’d highly recommend doing it.

I’m going to be taking a summer class from CNR to try and get a feel for Berkeley before fall. If you ever have any questions about anything let me know!! I’d be happy to help. Btw, what major are you applying to in CNR?

I got admitted to UCB and UCLA however I SIR UCLA because there is so much safety issues going on. If I were to go there I would have to be aware on my surroundings if I take classes at night! I wish UCB improved on their students safety

Anybody know if first year housing is guaranteed for transfers?
