Major: Sociology

ACADEMIC STATS::

Typical Unweighted GPA: 3.86

UC Unweighted GPA: 3.78 (one of my grades suffered during 10th grade, which recovered in 11th and 12th grade)

UC Capped Weighted GPA: 3.96

UC Fully Weighted GPA: 3.96

*My school doesn’t have ranks and offers 5 APs. School also didn’t have honors.

Number of a-g courses: Don’t know

Number of UC Approved Honors courses: 0

EC’s: LGBT: nationwide student project; Student Research Topics: international politics, climate change, disability rights, western philosophy, economic inequality; Student Conference: nationwide academic presentation (similar to MUN); Student Clubs: newspaper club, political philosophy research club

I also had some international essay & journalism award things too. I think essay really played a huge roll, because of my low GPA. I tried to be genuine with essays, which were about my academic passion, academic obstacles and overcoming them, and the efforts I put in to projects.

So happy!

Is the ucsd regents scholarship any good? I heard that 1% of applicants are considered so is that somewhat of a good sign for the more competitive UCs?

I am assuming you are asking about the UC Davis Regents since that is discussion you are posting on currently? Yes, it is the most prestigious merit scholarship awarded that includes many benefits including priority registration, honors college membership and housing.

However you cannot make any assumptions in receiving this scholarship for UC Davis specifically in that you will receive the scholarship at any other UC campus or it reflects your chances at admission at other campuses. Each UC campus evaluates Regent scholars based on their own specific criteria. Congratulations if you received the award.

When do they announce the recipients?

Regents should be listed on the student portal if you scroll down to the bottom. They are announced at time of admission.

Other scholarships awarded could also be listed in the Myawards tab on the student portal.

S25 accepted for Music!

In-state HS, top 9%, Los Angeles

4.0 UW
4.33 W
Don’t remember capped weighted
7 APs, 2 Honors (This is all that was offered at HS)

Very strong essays that were unique and well written

ECs: Student Body President, music composer with strong spotify following and distribution deal, lots of other music ECs, varsity basketball, volleyball and baseball, active service work at school

Strengths: Strong essays, unique and varied ECs
Weaknesses: Wonder how he might stand out without music portfolio being submitted at the UCs. He has strong grades and ECs but so do lots of students

Accepted: UCD, UCSC, American University, University of Colorado, Boulder, University of Oregon, Lewis and Clark, University of Denver (Lamont School of Music)

Waiting: UCB, UCSB, UCI, UCLA, Boston University, Tufts University, George Washington University and University of Washington
