UC decision dates...

Well, the reason my GPA was going up so much was because I had applied for academic renewal, which I had noted on my application. (I’m at a CCC right now) I’ve listened to the message enough times to have it pretty much memorized:

“Hi, this is message is for XXX, this is XXX at UC Berkeley admissions; I’m calling because we’re reviewing your application and we noticed that you had noted on it that you would be applying for academic renewal. We need to know if it went through and which classes it would cover. Blah blah blah.”

That’s pretty much it; I called and told them, but the conversation was brief, and I didn’t hear anything else. She did, however, say “oh, great!” after I told her that it went through. :)

I c, so your 1.8 basically doesnt count. I got a low gpa my first year (2.4) at UCR, and then went to ccc and got 4.0’s. So my low gpa is still factored in…hopefully SD still takes me…

That was what I heard from my counselor too. My counselor even told me that I have a good chance at UCLA or UCB as long as I keep my GPA over 3.5. But, I didn’t think I have a good chance at UCLA or UCB, I did think that I have a good chance at UCD or UCSD. That’s why I never thought that I would be rejected. However, it seems that the fact is much worse than what my counselor said. I will find out the answer and post it tomorrow. I hope all you can get in whatever you want.

Good luck, Tom! Let us know so we can help.

NCAA TOURNEY UPDATE=UCLA advances to the final four in Indy after defeating 3 seed Gonzaga and 1 seed Memphis. Go Bruins!!!Win it all.

At the TAP certification meeting, we were told not to use our Cal state grades in our GPA. We were only to use our UC transferrable classes.

Ok, i’ve been trying to figure this out for awhile. On berkeley’s admissions stats for 2005 it says:
Range of GPA’s 3.52-3.9
(middle 50 percent of students on a 4.0 scale)
??? what exactly does this mean? Was the lowest admitted gpa 3.52 and the highest 3.9? Or is this a range of the average gpa’s? i’m not much of a math person can someone help me out here?

Yes, it’s the average range (25% to 75%).

Is that range for CC’s or HS?

The range for transfers. Freshmen ususally have weighted GPA’s above 4.0

Thanks gabe…that’s good to know! They’re transfer stats, not freshman

Basically 25% got lower than that range, and 25% got higher. Since there is not much room to go higher, that means about 25% of the admitted applicants got a 4.0. =(

In another words, it roughly looks like a bell curve of the GPA ranging from 3.2 to 4.0 but in this case, the extreme is kind of big though comparing to the normal bell curve. Let me try to draw a rough stretch of that
…/—<br>
…//-----
…/-/…-
…–/…–
…3.2-----3.7-----4.0

(Note: 25% got HIGHER than 3.9 GPA, NOT 25% got exactly 4.0 GPA)

how come the bell curves deviation goes .3 higher, but .5 lower? wouldn’t the end of the curve be 3.4? Or are you saying the curve is skewed so the high point is more to the right than the median?

haha, I don’t think I know what I’m talking about…I took stats 3 semesters ago and barely remember it. I said 25% had 4.0 because I thought it was being rounded to 1 decimal place, not two. Even still, 25% have a 3.91-4.0, but I guess that’s better than the freshman, where probably like 90% have over a 4.0 :-/

santa barbara down for maintance AGAIN???!?@?!? oviously i am going to assume its an update. they are back up at noon today, and i cant log on until 2pm b/c i will be in class.

anyhow, someone should update at noon if possible

kylefc, I was thinking of the possibility that students with 3.2 could get in too. It could be even lower than 3.2. If one person get in with a low GPA, we still have to account that person in the bell curve. This is also the difficulty of making this bell curve because we kind of don’t know the extreme on the left side, the lowest GPA for the admits could be 3.4, 3.2, or so on… since we don’t have the actual data for this but we certainly can tell that 4.0 would be the highest GPA possible for the admits.

Also, even for about some thousands of data of admitted students for UCB, the bell curve is still not perfect, but might be closer to it.

woohoo i just got in to CUny-baruch … yaya, i officially have another safety, or 1st choice, depending on if i move or not.

i am paranoid now, i have not beed rejected yet, meaning probably ucla and cal will flat out just reject meand advise me that i was too dumb to even apply

still nothing from Irvine for me. Congrats, malishka.

Does this mean they have not gotten to my application? I know some say their decision is pending. Just curious.
