UC decision dates...

That sounds so arrogant indeed… some students do not even have the chance to receive UC’s acceptance and you are saying “CAN"T WAIT to DECLINE admission”… wow!

I don’t know if I’m gonna have that option Malishka. maybe you won’t either

i wish i could have that option… doesn’t seem likely though.

Hey,

What are the grade reqs to not get rescinded? Same as freshman? Is B or C the limit? Cuz winter qtr grades are out and one aint lookin’ pretty.

In my admissions letter, it said I needed to pass these two specific classes with at least a C. So I assume a C average and above would be fine.

From what I have known so far and from what my friends who had the acceptance letters with conditions, most of them require the students just to pass all the in progress and planned courses (passing is likely to be C or higher, I assume).

From my own experience, I had to get B or higher in two English courses and pass all the planned courses in my senior high school year to keep my acceptance of admission valid for UCR in Fall 2004.

damn that sucks futebolista. I didn’t do so well either.

I hope Cal has the policy as C or higher/passing.

My mistake is that I missed the P/NP deadline for a class that’s a lot harder (curve is skewed up to 85% when everybody had last year’s quizzes/final and i didnt!)

I have seen the requirement of a 3.0 overall GPA with a “C” as the lowest grade you can get.

i think they ask to maintain similar gpa. but thats never enforced from my knowledge

Ok, that’s very misleading. Admissions conditions should be taken VERY SERIOUSLY; there is no guarantee you will still get in if you do not meet the conditions.

Just a note:

Last year Berkeley said it would be April 29 (Friday) and it was. The previous year decisions were set for April 30 (Friday). And of course, it’s listed as May 1 (Monday) this year. It’d be GREAT if they did come out on the Friday (April 28) though.

Hi, everyone.

It’s that time of the year again! You guys are ambitious and driven and obsessive, but that’s all good coz so were we last year (for many cases in point, go view http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=37648).

I see that acceptances are starting to pour in; congratulations to those of you who have gotten in to UCI, UCSB, UCD and UCSD. I am pleasantly surprised that people are hearing from UCSD as early as this month; last year SD adcoms took their SWEET time. I have a vague memory of some students waiting for UCSD decisions as late as third, fourth week of May.

To those of you still waiting on decisions from “the big two” or whatever your dream school is: the wait is jarring and will drive you insane, but hopefully it’ll be worth it. At any rate, all of the UCs are fantastic schools, and one really can’t go wrong going to any of them. Good luck to you all!

Oh, if anyone here wants to come tour Cal, do it on Cal Day on April 22. :)

BTW, the reason that I’m up this late is because I just finished viewing the webcast for the total solar eclipse which happened about an hour ago. It was wonderful. Here’s the link to the site if you’re interested: http://www.exploratorium.edu/eclipse/2006/</a></p>

Hi. Biochemist,
How is did fall semester at berk go for u? Anything exciting happen.

I am doing ok. waiting for may. I should write a new song, I’ll call it, “wake me up when March+April ends”

Hey highschoolda! Fall was pretty crazy for me, actually. I was doing okay (a B and two A-'s, although I was pretty much just hanging in there for my biochem class) through the semester, and then my mom was hospitalized all of finals week, so there went my GPA. :frowning: But I’ve bounced this semester (I think), and I’m in a much better place at this point in the semester than last Fall. And I’m taking 20 units this semester, too! Sigh. It’s not so bad though - one of my classes this semester is just an intro language class, and one requires just 4 papers but no exams (which is fine by me).

So which schools have you heard from so far? I’ll be frequenting the board from now on - well, as much as I can, at least, especially during this very exciting time!

hey, i wasnt trying to be arrogant.

i just want to reject them … even though i know they wont care.

Did anyone hear anything from UCSB, why is it taking so flipping long.

Hey biochemist12, hows university life compared to CCC?

^ It’s a little hard to answer your question, so I’ll focus on the academic aspect; also, I’d like to issue a disclaimer: I have nothing else to base my answers on other than my experiences here at Berkeley; it may well be different at other places.

Classes here at Berkeley (or any other university, I’d imagine) are more difficult, if only because most of your classmates are just about as good as you (if not better), and many of the classes here are graded on a curve (I’m almost sure that all classes in the MCB department are). You can’t readily expect to be on top of your classes at your university, no matter how easy CC classes were for you. I struggled a lot in my first upper division major class here, and really had to work my butt off, whereas at my CCC I could get by with relatively little effort. I’m not stating, though, that everyone here is ridiculously smart. I’d say almost everyone, because I’m sure that there will always be some “bad eggs” that slip through in a university with 23,000+ undergrads. To be fair, though, almost everyone I’ve met here is a diligent student, but then again, I’m a science major, and many of my classmates are premeds or pre-whatevers and are insanely competitive…

Berkeley, being a huge university, has its very many perks, though, one of which is the wide variety of classes available. I’ve yet to have difficulty getting into classes that I want to get into (I get myself on the waitlist and I eventually do get into the class coz tons of people always drop anyway). But that might only be because I’m a transfer, and I got to skip the agonizing wait lists (and harsh grading curves, of course) for some of the lower division classes here that all science majors have to take (like the Chem 1 or 3 series, for instance). But certainly the schedule of classes was not nearly as impressive at my CC. (BTW I’m taking classes right now to complete a double major in MCB and Classical Civilizations, and so far the lower div classes that I need for the classical civ major were not that hard to get into.)

For those of you who are concerned about being treated as “just a number” in the massive bureaucracy of state-run universities, I do believe that it’s a legitimate concern because I know some people here who have had some valid complaints about how impersonal the system is. This is especially true for kids who went straight from the relatively cozier, “let me walk you through it” atmosphere of high school, and it’s of course true for many of us transfers as well, who have had the advantage of being in smaller classes and being able to interact more easily with our professors at our community college. I personally do not have any horror stories based on my experience here, and I’m hoping I never have to complain about mean professors who bail out on their office hours all the time or other such nasty things. All of my professors here - the ones I’ve approached, at least - have been incredibly accommodating and patient, and almost all of them don’t just know what they’re talking about but are wonderful lecturers are well. I’d like to think that the people who have had unpleasant experiences here are few and far between, because Berkeley is still widely acknowledged as an excellent school, and most students love it here.

The only miff I so far have is that I had a less-than-competent GSI (grad student instructor: in charge of smaller discussion sections that meet once a week to discuss material from the 3hr/wk lectures given by a real professor) last semester for one of my classes, but really that’s just how it is; we get crappy professors at CCs, too.

This is a really long-winded answer, but I hope it helps! :)

biochemist,
Very sorry to hear about ur mom. I really hope she is doing better now.

As for me, have not heard from anywhere.

have a great remaining of spring break.
