UC decision dates...

malishka, what exactly were you updating? didn’t the last day to update pass on feb 14th?

I’m attempting to transfer from UCSC to UCLA as a business econ major. However, I didn’t complete the right calculus sequence so my application might have been for naught, even though I was invited to apply for the regents scholarship. I talked to one of the admissions advisors today and they told me that there was a good possibility that could disqualify me from admission to the major. Not cool, major bummer.

found an interesting link about the appeals process: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/compreview/0308_meeting/appeals_matrix.pdf

what do people think about letters of recommendation? i could probably come up with maybe six good ones, from former employers and teachers. is that overkill?

Enginenr9

the day passed to update via pathways, but it says that if you change your courses in progress or planned work you should contact each school individually, and i did. some i emailed, others like berkeley i faxed.
Then the lady from berkeley called me and asked me questions regarding my work in progress to verify the infromation and to count the units i was in… it was weird, because the letter was VERY self explanatory, she just sort of checked everything and was like "well you dont need this class for igetc or major prep, your done with igetc " then she was like “you dropped 5 but you added 6, so i have you at 66 units total” just junk like that.

So based on that am i safe to assume that A. i have not been rejected yet, B. my file has either been reviewed and i got in or is going to be reviewed.

I doubt that she would call me to verify if i was rejected, that would be mean and a waste of her time, but i can totally see them calling if they havent reviewed yet or if i was alreayd accepted.

i am oviously hoping for the latter of the two. (the already accepted)

Enginenr9…

i think letters of recon are great but i dont think just that on its own will be enough to have a succesfull appeal. You have to improve the overall application… and address any and all qualities that would get you rejected (if you get rejected) and then add letters of recon ontop of that.

Find a councelor in your school who can speacilize in the appeals process.

In my CC there is one councelor that bascilly helps the students get together lettters of appeal and address the weaknesses in their applications, and writes a recomendation for them and so on, most of her students always get in on appeal.

hmm. i filled out everything by feb 14th and didn’t change any of my classes this semester, but what i realized a few weeks ago was that i didnt add my in progress units into the “UC Transferable Courses Summary”, even though the courses im taking are already listed under the “work in progress” page. hope that doesn’t come back to f*** me…

last year when i initially decided i wanted to transfer, i had only planned on transfering to sfsu, so since i did not take enough uc approved courses, by the end of this semester, of my exactly 60.5 units only 52.5 will be uc transferrable. otherwise, i have a 3.9gpa, lots of interesting work experience, travel experience, and real world experience related to my major. if i get rejected i think it will be based on my being short of 60 uc units.

my appeal would be for a spring admission, and i could include letters of rec from three japanese teachers (my major) and the heads of three different medium sized companies whom i have worked with personally for a while now (i’m a photographer). i would also include mid semester grade reports from my teachers: if not all A’s then at most two B’s. that’s out of six courses…i took 19 units last semester (all A’s) and im taking 19 again this semester.

the idea would be appealing for a spring admission, which would allow me to take another semester of cc and fulfill the 60 unit requirement.

am i crazy? do i have a chance? christ i really want to go to berkeley…

i dont know enough about the process to give you an honest answer , but i can tell you that trying doesnt hurt.

are you done with the Igetc and major prep?

i think being short on units is a big deal , but i am not 110% sure.

enginenr9–it’s worth a try, but they are going to look at that very harshly. They can’t be sure that you will actually complete 60 units in the fall. You can call their office and ask them if such an appeal would have a chance.

One of the questions Berkeley answers in the FAQ is something like: “I have a 3.9 GPA and a solid application. Is it true that I won’t get in because I need the summer to complete prereqs/get 60 transferable units?” Answer: “Yes.”

April 30th is a sunday. Unlikely that decisions will come out that day for UCLA.

May 5th sounds more likely. which is a fri.

Eschatos–he said “…by the end of this semester, of my exactly 60.5 units only 52.5 will be uc transferrable.”

THIS semester, not fall.

i don’t want to wait any longer. SD is still pending for me…

What about UCLA coming out on the Friday–April 28?

I saw that and edited accordingly. I missed the sentence detailing that, unfortunately. The last part from the FAQ still holds true though.

Arent appeals due may 15th, so they should atleast give us from may 1st to the 15th, i mean, to gather the necessary information and so on in case we have to appeal, its unfair if they realease decisions on like the 5th or later.

Has berkeley been pretty consistant on realeasing them when they state, or do they kind of have a rolling release after the day they give?

ive read the faq before, but it’s a little vague. my coursework will be finished at the end of this semester, ive completed all required courses, just my units add up a little short. there are no breadths left to fill short of taking 7.5 units of uc transferable basket weaving. surely they realize how pointless it would be to make someone wait an extra two semesters to reapply and another to start at berkeley, for 7.5 units they don’t even need…

it’s kind of pointless to talk to berkeley, seeing as they will stick to their party line of “no exceptions” when they do sometimes make them. i just wonder what my real world chances are.

forgot to add, i didn’t do igetc, just completed the college of l&s reading and comp, quantative reasoning, and foreign language reqs, in addition to the seven course breadth, and all major prereqs available to me.

i dont know , i mean you are techinically not a junior transfer then, and they only accept junior transfer, so its going to be a hard appeal.

BUT you could say that you will complete the 7.5 units in the summer, which you could easily do,… so you can add that to your appeal.

But at the same time, a lot of us had to take UC transferble basked weaving, so why should they make an exception for you?

Not trying to be mean, just trying to point out the things you would have to address in your appeal if you have to appeal.

You sould have to have an exceptional reason explaining your situation and so on .

DId you address this in your personal statement by any chance?

g1a2b3e: aren’t all admissions conditional? sfsu admitted me already, on the condition that i complete my stated coursework with a certain gpa. a spring admit to berkeley would presumably be under a similar condition…finish your 60 units or you’re not getting in.

like i said, i know what their official stance is, but from people on this board, and from someone i know working at berkeley who indirectly inquired to admissions for me, they do make “exceptions”. clearly they can’t state that on their website…they are swamped with applications as it is, they don’t need anymore, especially incomplete ones. what im interested in is for what and to what extent do they generally make exceptions?
